Time for climate exit : Comments

By Viv Forbes, published 4/12/2023

The world's rich and famous, plus an army of publicists, hangers-on and mendicants, are attending the COP28 meeting in Dubai, the ostentatious 7-star play-ground capital of United Arab Emirates where even the police drive luxury sports cars.

Mostly agree with the general tenor of the article, but not the conclusion. Forest Gump got it right when he said, stupid is as stupid does. Renewables supported by batteries and or pumped hydro, will create the world's most expensive energy and kill our economy.

MSR thorium in recent years has been subjected to a million trials. And the Chinese have ironed out the bugs to create a working prototype. And as part of belt and road are offering the reactors for sale to willing buyers.

We should buy a few dozen and connect them to local micro grids. And place a few in series for industrial estates/manufacturing.

Let's get back to being a country that makes and sells stuff. A goal not doable with the supply of the world's most expensive energy!

It seems to have missed stupid is as stupid does, labor, that nuclear energy is also carbon free! And also, is the cheapest most reliable, dispatchable energy option currently available!

Had to click on page 'All' to view the article. The UAE has two large nuclear reactors and is completing a third, something perhaps delegate Bowen could have noticed. All UAE's water is from expensive desalination hopefully not a sign for Australia. Perhaps many of the attendees will become climate warriors like the chap on a hunger strike who is apparently still with us.

Albo is hinting Australia could host COP29. Come on down in kerosene burners and visit Oz. The conference should be no expense spared all paid for by massive coal and gas exports.

Our coal and gas exports create, I'm told, produce around 40% of CO2/greenhouse gas.

Interesting that one of the world's biggest oil producers is building another nuclear reactor Making their number, 3 in total.

Desal using deionisation dialysis desalination, produces water that is cost effective on broad scale agriculture. moreover, using old tried and tested technology, it is possible to covert seawater into all manner of hydrocarbons.

One extracts hydrogen using electrolysis. then extracts CO2 using vacuum towers. Then through a series of compressions, combine the liquids to produce all manner of hydrocarbons that replace fossil fuel, in a carbon neutral way.

None of the above is commercially viable using battery or pumped hydro backed renewables! But eminently doable using MSR thorium or MSR nuclear waste burners!

Their is one word missing in the climate debate PROFIT
If the the free energy investment companies gain 80/85 % of the energy market
Then the investors in these projects will demand their return on investment
Therefore the energy prices will be driven by the investment mob
Good bye to cheap energy
