Well this is capitalism at work.

A very basic analysis of capitalism is that it can only work effectively if there is inflation.

Buy/invest in an appreciating asset and pay it back later with cheaper money.

Of course the more you have to start with the better it is.

For some reason most economists suggest that 3% inflation is just about right.

This can be achieved either through degrading the currency or population increase.

In Australia the major political parties use the populate or perish method.

Australians are prepared to vote against their best interests on many issues including increased royalties from mining.

We could have a sovereign wealth fund similar to Norway but we opted out because vested interests told us that was socialism - socialism bad.

Confusing using 'headline data' with neither context nor definitions provided e.g. 'immigration' has become distorted and inflated by nativist influencers for media headlines, but masks a more complicated field.

Nowadays it's less to do with traditional (capped) permanent migration, but reflects increased mobility and temporary residents due to international education, backpackers, temp workers, long term residents etc.; caught under the NOM net overseas migration 12/16+ months residency test, expanded in 2006, spiked NOM then population.

The SEQ graphics also explain an unstated fact, our permanent population is ageing as the baby boomer bomb/bubble transitions to retirement to live longer and more healthily, good news?

However, the same 20 year cohorts, and oldies, rely upon budgets to fund health care, services and retirement income (pensions & super rebates) vs. decline in working age that passed 'demographic sweet spot' 2009.

These 'immigrants' are mostly temporary residents, who like elsewhere, are deemed to be 'net financial (budget) contributors', without having vehicles, sharing accommodation and not staying permanently, supporting more retirees in the permanent population, what's wrong with that?

Graphically represented in old age dependency i.e. retirees vs. working age, by the OECD here https://data.oecd.org/chart/79U9

Thanks Ross Elliott for the important article. Kudos.

Thanks for some intelligent comments. Kudos.

Government policy in this area seems to be a result of racist Anglophobia. Every culture deserves their own nation. The people of the Anglo-sphere are rapidly becoming a stateless people.

Many peoples on the planet seem to resent the success of the Anglo/ Euro spheres. The hate of Anglo/ Euro spheres seems to derive from colonialism but colonialism ended more than fifty years ago in many cases. The end of colonialism seems to have resulted in more poverty and conflict because now ex-colonial nations appear to have huge migration to the Anglo/ Euro sphere- despite the ejection of Anglo/ Europeans.

It would be good if we could create a world where people would have more of a choice to return to their ancestral home- rather than taking someone elses home. Anglo people could help to create this world- probably this is more of an issue of leadership than an issue of money- at least initially

But the main problem is the issue of "Population Colonialism/ Invasion". As with armies when populations line up on the border to cross into another it is an act of war. Especially with governmental criminal complicity.

Answer- Yes "nativist" seems to be a "devil" pejorative used to "Satan-ize" people that believe that our grandparents had the right idea. Communists often use such terms to shame people from their own legitimate self interest. They also like to "Satan-ize" people by other effemeral terms such as Nazi or Fascist that few understand the meaning of. While succinct language is sometimes used to clarify or simplify a message it's also sometimes used to confuse issues.

I generally invalidate people that use terms such as "nativist", "Nazi", or "Fascist" because of the way that these terms are used.

Canem Malum: No, it's not a (lazy) pejorative, but a fact that Australia's (US & UK) nativist migration policy and attitudes are influenced by an admirer of the white Australia policy, who visited, hosted by the and linked to Sustainable Population Australia, deceased US 'environmentalist' John 'passive eugenics' Tanton.

Described by SPLC as 'the racist founder of the modern anti-immigration movement', and was with fossil fueled (Rockefeller Bros/Exxon) & auto (VW/Fiat) supported ZPG Zero Population Growth with Paul 'Population Bomb' Ehrlich; greenwashing and deflecting from fossil fuels.

Described in depth here of late by US KPBS journalist Binkowski, in 'Eugenics, Border Wars & Population Control: The Tanton Network' while funding shows that Tanton Network shares donors with Koch Network
