Since most of the 'when-I-was-at-uni' brigade will never get a decent paying job with their Mickey Mouse degrees, the poor old taxpayer is stuck with the debt.

Universities are a taxpayer funded cult promoting wokeism and mental illness.

Yes, and stupid in the Enith degree.

Ed should be paid for with a means tested, toddler to adulthood package that is like that of similar to aged care. Which like all sensible and affordable funding cannot be universal!

And directed to competing education providers. That way we can eliminate most of the useless bureaucracy and endless costly duplication.

And instead, direct that money at means tested and safe accommodation/living away from home allowance and costs hardly/barely covered by the current funding paradigm. And the cause of way too many dropouts.

My funding paradigm would cost far less and put much more cash in university coffers. A win, win all round for the government, the student body, the universities and schools!

- Fantasyland.

If you want equality in education Alan B...
Then who do you propose will empty the bins and clean the toilets for the academics, if everyone's an academic?

Just goes to prove once again that under closer inspection this whole 'equality' narrative is just feelgood bullcrap that doesn't actually have any place in the real world.

But I do agree with you a lot more could be achieved in education if the country wasn't hamtrung by experts who are complete duds.

They couldn't even manage a special-school curriculum competently.
Wooden jigsaw puzzles and colouring in with crayons and such..
Even that's above the pay grades of some of these 'leading experts'

... Students come grown adults that can't read or count a handful of small change or tie their own shoelaces.
- Teachers for whom 'Google' is their 'go to' teaching resource and the result - idiots, imbeciles and morons are the pinnacle of their teaching ability.
