Modi's visit to Australia: a blend of celebration and controversy : Comments

By Syed Atiq ul Hassan, published 24/5/2023

Alarming reports indicate that minorities, particularly Christians and Muslims, are facing persecution with governmental backing, evident in the demolition of mosques and churches.

But sadly, there is always a decline…and there lies the problem. China will not be happy.

Many were happy enough with Nero too; they were not the Christians.

I wonder will there be a new apocalyptic Christian text written with the same foreboding as was Revelation and second Thessalonians, highlighting imaginings of the return of Nero to Rome?

This ain’t over till the fat lady sings.

I must say that seeing people, possibly Australian citizens who have sworn allegiance to Australia, mobbing the leader of the country they left behind, gives me the pip. Why the hell did you come here if this bloke is so good, I ask. Can you be trusted?

However, going on this author's name, I'm thinking that he is anti-India, and biased.

What goes on in India, and between India and Pakistan, is no business of Australia's. India is the enemy of our enemy, Communist China, and is, therefore, our friend, our ally. India is also a fellow member of the Commonwealth.

The bit about Modi seeking to have Indian medicines in Australia is pathetic. Chinese medicine is available here. Why not Indian medicine?

India is a sovereign nation as are we. If we don't like what another sovereign nation is doing to ethnic or religious minorities, all we can do is via diplomatic channels. And that is better done behind closed doors over a cup of convivial tea.

India as a young nation is a better choice for aa free trade agreement than an aging sabre-rattling aggressive China. And I dare say, India's human rights record is significantly better than China's. And never prevented our mutually beneficial trade with Them.

If China is not happy then it is up to them to lift their game and remove all the trade sanctions that forced us into the welcoming arms of others! And cannot come with conditions!

India used Ziverdo kits containing Ivermectin to defeat covid threat. Perhaps we would do well to look seriously at their health system. It could save us a fortune
