Elizabeth the Great : Comments

By Mal Fletcher, published 12/9/2022

Queen Elizabeth saw her role as a vocation rather than a profession. She will be remembered not just for the position she held, but for the person she was.

I'm sorry but this lady was just another human being! And the worship others conferred on her is not universally shared by all Ozzies.

Can't look at the tele without some boorish individual with a snobbish plum in mouth, going bananas over someone they and we just saw in passing, nothing else.

I for one will be glad when all the last century, ritualistic pomp, circumstance and the hugely overdone fanatical fuss is finally done! The Queen of England is dead, long live the King of England!

Let's get on with the burial, the funeral and get back to important stuff like the footy!

RIP Elizebeth11. And bring on the republic!

Queen Elizabeth II
Was such a well-known face
Although she lived so far away
She's someone we embraced

She lived to a ripe old age
Ninety six to be exact
She saw so many changes
Not all she could adapt

However she did her very best
And in her job she thrived
For which her people were so keen
To have her stay alive

Finally the time did come
When sadly her husband died
She suddenly had to cope alone
Without him by her side

It wasn't easy but she tried
To soldier on against the tide
Until her health just flickered out
And she was covered with a shroud

The Queen is dead and we all mourn
Our monarch's left us all forlorn
And in her place her son will reign
King Charles III is now his name

It's a time of mourning across the realms
A different ruler is at the helm
May he be as dedicated to the cause
As dedicated as his mother was

Then with one voice
We'll gladly sing
Out loud and glorious
"God Save Our Precious King!"

The Australian people will decide in which direction they
will want the country to go. Whether to stay as is or become
a republic. At present we all mourn the passing of a monarch
that most of us grew up with. This is not the time to discuss
the question of a republic. Let the Queen be buried first.

Yes of course, let her be buried first, but as a human being we knew from a public persona only! And a role she was good at! But she was, after all, just a (privileged) woman not a deity. And we need to keep that mind. As we touch our forelocks and bend a knee.

Let her be buried with all the pomp and ceremony that behooves a Queen. Then move on.

We Irish remembers the English for the black and tans and the mass transportation of political prisoners to the other side of the world, those that survived that is. And the then monarch, Victoria, signed off on that. And caused the greatest forced exodus and dispossession the Irish have ever known!

As for Charles the turd as we Irish would say it. One cannot polish a turd.

And this cheating immoral turd was the catalyst that led to Princes Diana's death. Something I'll never forget!

Once all the royal BS is done, let's have a referendum that asks just 2 questions. Should first nation peoples have a voice in parliament, and do we want to be a republic?

To be fair I never suggested we shouldn't bury the Queen first! And Foxy sweetheart, I take umbrage to the inference I did!

Oh Alan B. You are a very naughty boy.

Onya Foxy

You are OLO's premier poet
And we know it.

I'd like to add

Young Queensy Babe adorns my wall*
My bone for her was never small.

I already have a bone to pick with Bonny King Charlie.

As I've communiquade elsewhere:

I see Charlie naming himself "King Charles III" as a huge missed opportunity.

I recall that years ago Charlie half jokingly entertained another name for a short time.

That was "KING ARTHUR" on account of Charlie's real name being "Charles Philip Arthur George"

The mythological King Arthur, notionally lived somewhere in modern day Wales, with his Court of Camelot, complete with his Knights of the Round Table. This would have:

- made excellent journalistic copy for decades.

- placed King Arthur in the fine tradition of JFK's "Court of Camelot".

And, most importantly, all we stout hearted Monarchis Aussies could, as one, ditch the Girt Song for this massive improvement http://youtu.be/SLYxPpr5JtM

Aian,
One can polish a turd and I have a couple that came up really well, and no smell at all.

As we Irish say “Maith tu a Cathal”. Welcome

Foxy,
I'm afraid the Australians will be outnumbered in that decision as they already are on so many issues !
I agree wit Alan B what he says about the romp & pomp ! Too bad he brought dumbo Footy into this !

Dear Alan B.,

My sincere apologies to you if I've offended you. I didn't
mean to. I was generalizing when I said that we should bury
the Queen first. It wasn't just your reaction alone to which
I was referring - and I'm sorry that was the way you
understood it. I grew up with a mum who admired Queen Elizabeth
greatly. A mum who's wish was to live to be 100 so that she
could get a letter from Her Majesty. Mum did not make it.
She died a few years ago - also at the age of 96.

I think it was David F., one of our forum contributors who
made the comment that Her Majesty was a good argument for a
republic. And that "Champagne Charlie" was a good argument for
a republic!. I guess we'll have to wait and see if in
King Charlie's case that comes to be. In any case it will be
up to Australian voters to decide what they want.

Personally, I support a Voice to Parliament. As for a republic?
I'm not as sure as I once was. I have to admit. Perhaps it's
the emotion that I'm currently feeling and being swayed by it all.

Dear Mavers,

Again, Thank You for your kind words and for sharing your
thoughts with us once again. I'm not sure that the name
King Arthur would have suited King Charles. I don't think
he's the type who'd sit around round tables, or pull
swords out of stones. (smile). Whether he's a heroic type
we shall have to wait and see. Who knows his legacy may
end up being quite impressive - especially if he continues
to rise above politics and fight for worthwhile causes.

Dear Indyvidual,

I'm more optimistic regarding the Australian people. We
tend to muddle through and eventually we get things
right.

I need to correct the error I made regarding
David F's comment about Her Majesty. He said
she was a good argument for a monarchy (not a
republic as I mistakenly posted) and that Charles
was a good argument for a republic. My apologies.

The passing of Uncle Jack Charles, at 79, makes me sad as well:

The ABC reports 13 September 2022 http://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-09-13/uncle-jack-charles-victorian-aboriginal-actor-elder-dies/101433094

Actor, musician and revered Victorian Aboriginal elder Uncle Jack Charles is being mourned as a cheeky, tenacious "father of black theatre", after his death aged 79.

In a statement, his publicist said the Boon Wurrung, Dja Dja Wurrung, Woiwurrung and Yorta Yorta man, who also had links to several other clans across south-eastern Australia, passed away peacefully this morning at the Royal Melbourne Hospital after suffering a stroke.

"Before he passed away, his family were able to send him off on Country during a smoking ceremony at the Royal Melbourne Hospital," the statement said.

"We are so proud of everything he has achieved in his remarkable life — Elder, actor, musician, potter, activist, mentor, a household name and voice loved by all — as is demonstrated by his numerous awards including this year's NAIDOC Male Elder of the Year.

"He will live on in our hearts and memories and through his numerous screen and stage roles.

"May he be greeted by his Ancestors on his return home."

'Saved' by a gift for acting

In a career spanning several decades, the Stolen Generations survivor used his creative platforms to share painful and personal truths about the brutal impact of government policies on his community....

Hi Maverick,

Thank you for posting the death of Uncle Jack Charles
who's died at the age of 79. He also was loved and
respected by many. Getting older as actor Miriam
Margolyes has pointed is a "hideous" experience.
You get through it as best you can.

The worst thing about ageing is the great sorrow of
losing friends and people you've loved and imagined
would always be there. Then they start, with
wretched regularity, to leave your life.

Rest In Peace Uncle Jack.

Also I share author's sentiment, Alan B.'s position looks more livable. At the end of the day, no being wants to perish: https://www.lifesitenews.com/opinion/king-charles-co-hosted-original-great-reset-meeting-with-klaus-schwab-we-have-no-alternative/?utm_source=digest-freedom-2022-09-12&utm_medium=email

The KING's Coronation Anthem below is also a touching tribute to the QUEEN, best played Loud:

+++++++++++++

Even the Hitler Parody is sad and and teary about the Queen's passing. Adolf says nothing but is moved by the stirring scenes and music of the Queen, including "Land of Hope and Glory" and of course "God Save the Queen" at the Queen's End (Exit) http://youtu.be/bu9IxOwWRZw?t=12s
