Getting there: the resurrection of Aboriginal cultural heritage legislation : Comments

By Greg Bondar, published 6/6/2022

Many will recall that in May 2020, Rio-Tinto blasted the 46,000-year-old Juukan Gorge rock shelters in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

"Time for an Aboriginal member of parliament in NSW come 2023".

Such a person should put himself/herself up for the job. The federal parliament now has a 10% representation of these people, three times the number of those in the population actually claiming to be aboriginal or part thereof. Why don't those who are half-white talk about that? Senator Price's father was a white Anglo/Celt. She will be an asset for all Australians in parliament, but she is both aboriginal and non-aboriginal.

While it is common for the bleeding hearts to call 'racists' those who dare to call for tests for 'claimed' aboriginality - where its existence is not obvious - it is the bleeding hearts themselves who are the real racists, advocating division and apartheid in Australia’s population.

Mabo is an excellent template for land rights. And keeps the humbug out of land rights. If those who are born here are not native Australians with the same rights as all other Native born Australians, then what we have is reverse apartied.

Yes the destruction of of those caves was inexcusable! And we do need to preserve these areas to save them for all time as we would for Christian Cathedrals etc.

People have migrated here in waves for thousands of years. And only recent arrivals with white skins are singled out as non native! Pacific islanders? Not so much!

Time for truth telling and reconciliation. And an end to the endless humbug and black armband history.

We also need a new definition of black that is resolved by DNA tests that show more than 50%! Not, I feel aboriginal, claims by folk with blue eyes and milk white skin and no devison DNA. If that's the only requirement, then we are all Aboringinal!

That said, my original assertion remains the only real test for all native born Aussies. Be they black white or brindle

Alan, Mabo was actually a bad template for land rights. It really only has application for coastal dwelling people who are/were not hunter/gatherers, but who lived in well defined area. It would seem that the smart legal eagles at that time really got it all wrong and now it it is impossible to untangle it.

ttbn. Senator elect Price is one of the few part aboriginals who is honest about her antecedents. She is also very knowledgeable about how things really are in aboriginal communities in the bush. I hope senators on both sides of the house and on the cross benches listen intently on what she has to say.
