Wartime history reduced to dust : Comments

A structure in the north Queensland bush which played an integral part in the Pacific victory 77 years ago was reduced to rubble in the name of progress back in 1957.

May I direct you to the 'fake house' built above the concrete bunker at 21-25 Green Street on the western side of Castle Hill. When last visited about six years ago, the bunker housed the SES and the 'fake house' was home to a few community groups.

During WW2 it is my understanding that the bunker housed a signals intelligence unit. For a few years after the war ended, my parents-in-law and their children lived in the 'fake house' - it was then temporary officer accommodation for the RAAF!
