It's been going on for ever.

Back just after the war we were living in Townsville. The next door neighbor kid & I were inseparable, spending as much time in each others homes as our own, & thus becoming invisible. Thus I was there when the bank manager father came home one afternoon.

These were the days of the little lady, & men ruling the roost. As pre teen I thought nothing about such things, but was a little surprised to see him hand his wife his unopened pay packet. She opened it, extracted a small amount, his pocket money for the week, 10 bob I think, & pocketed the rest.

I found this interesting, so watched at home, finding a repeat of the practice there. None of these oppressed women worked, but had total control of the family finances. My mother did the "Oslo" lunches at the school on Tuesday, follower by lunch at a strand restaurant, played tennis on Wednesday, & Bridge on Thursday.

How the hell did these women fall for the "right" to hold down a full time job as promoted by the Womens Lib Movement, when they had it so good as a full time mother?
