Populate at peril? : Comments

By Ross Elliott, published 28/10/2021

Up until Covid turned the tap off on net overseas migration, we were projecting growth rates for our major cities which put them in the same league as cities such as Shanghai and Beijing.

Politicians AND Beancounters ttbn,

I don't know how they can hold two conflicting arguments at the same time.

We must have growth, growth is good!
You must all stop polluting the planet, the world will be destroyed in 10 years!!
- But we must have growth!!

It's seriously mentally retarded.

The rich want to make more money; MUST HAVE GROWTH!!
But they want everyone else to have less. CLIMATE CHANGE!!

The queen wants me to live in a tiny box house like this
http://greencitizen.com/tiny-homes-by-ikea-help-fight-climate-change/
- While she lives it up in her palace and 20 people need to be employed to pay the wage of the person who wipes her bot-bot.

She's making all the leaders feel guilty for having democracies and citizens wanting to make their own choices, and wants Scomo on the plane burning 9 tonnes of aviation fuel just to get to Scotland.

the whole worlds become one big psy-op of manipulation to force global agendas of one world government.

You want me to cut my meat consumption by 90%
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2018/oct/10/huge-reduction-in-meat-eating-essential-to-avoid-climate-breakdown
- and have us living off plant based diets
http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-49238749
- that are grown in our own feces
http://theconversation.com/the-world-needs-more-toilets-but-not-ones-that-flush-74007

You want our toilets caked with urine build-up
http://psmag.com/environment/yellow-seriously-let-mellow-bathroom-toilet-water-conservation-94758
Or not use toilets at all
http://www.wired.co.uk/article/toilet-climate-crisis-water
To have 3 minute showers
http://cambridgecarbonfootprint.org/actions/fewer_baths_shorter_showers/

You want to shut all the coal plants down and charge 3 times the cost of power to cover the cost of climate agendas.

And its all pushed by the UN and big business

Well they aren't going to go without are they?
Is the queen going to move into a tiny home?
- It's all about equality right?? -
Is she and all the other elites going to be satisfied eating their daily bowl of kale?
Peeing in a urine caked toilet? No
Are you going to get the queen to stop using toilet paper and to use her hand instead/
(for the good of the environment, of course)
http://www.nrdc.org/experts/jennifer-skene/toilet-paper-driving-climate-crisis-every-flush
How the hell do you get growth?
When out the other side of your mouth you want everyone else to have LESS?

There is no solution to car traffic that is solved with extra roads.

I live in SEQ

I sold my car last year, and got a little esccoter. I was sceptical but I have to say I love this thing, my parter was the mover here as she'd gotten one first to get the 4km to work. We do trips up to 40kms (return) easily on the bike paths and back trails around where we live. We travel on the train with it and visit family and friends as well.

It does 99% of what we need it would be wonderfully served if it had better integration in the public transport systems like light rail on the GC so we could get off the train at Helensvale onto lite rail and catch that into the GC. We got off at Helensvale the other day and scooted to Harbourtown to meet friends for lunch. It's been quite the revelation and honesty think it's a transport revolution, we just need some roads closed and have the lane turned into a cycle/escooter lane only to allow quicker transits. (I am 54)

You are not stuck in traffic, YOU are the traffic.

Armchair,
Where did you get the idea the queen wants you to live in a tiny house? Is it that they ran an IKEA commercial with the news report about her?

You seem to be quite unaware that environmentalists aren't a homogenous block. There are a few who think we can't afford economic growth and must abandon capitalism etc (though most, but not all, of those were anticapitalist to begin with and just use environmentalism as an excuse). There are three things you need to know about these people:
1) They are some prominent people falsely accused of being in this category, usually based on quotes taken out of context.
2) People in this category were responsible for an enormous backlash, as some capitalists couldn't see through their arguments so instead engaged cognitive dissonance to fool themselves and others into thinking AGW is a hoax.
3) Not all anticapitalists oppose economic growth; some understand what it is.

Anyway, it should obvious that supporting growth is a more reasonable course of action than opposing it, and climate change does not mean everyone else should have less.

In 2021 some people are still refusing to accept that the planet has too many humans !
Will the 2050 Climate change target convince these brainless wonders ?
Probably not & they'll still demand other people feed others' children !
