By Binoy Kampmark, published 4/8/2021

Such credits do nothing to remove existing emissions in the way that soil carbon sequestration or direct air capture does, giving an accountant's version of carbon neutrality.

If the IOC was serious about sustainability and taking a load off the planet and people, it's bigheaded big mouths would all resign and never stage the silly circus again.

According to JAL, Australian footballers should get a Gold Medal for wild, raucous and obnoxious behaviour on their flight back from Tokyo.

I agree that the only way to reduce carbon emissions is to make less of them! Planting trees may appear to reduce carbon? But only until the tree burns or decays and it then gives it up as CO2 or worse, as methane. Geosequestration in the soil is only good until the plough hit the soil! And carbon offsets are no more than more clever accounting for the plebs?

If we were serious about the ahlympics and reducing their carbon footprint? The easiest way would be to process their organic waste through double digesting, digesting plants that utilise natural fermentation to produce high carbon soil improver, nutrient-loaded reusable in agriculture as underground applications, irrigation water. And last but not least copious quantities of inexhaustible biogas! TBC.

If any of the spin doctors were serious about reducing the carbon footprint? Then they'd start making energy choices that doesn't make more of it!

And for mine, the best, cheapest, safest is MSR nuclear. And they would all agree if they were honest, instead of presenting endless spin or denying that carbon emissions are killing the planet by degrees, celsius.

It's a bit like dealing with a pandemic. You only get one chance to hard and early! But then that'd require a brain coupled to bold and decisive decision making and ruling out the clamour of powerful vested interests! And for that, we'd need someone like Greta to rule the world for the next decade!

Seriously, who else's telling it like it is!? Well!? Waiting! Tony or Sarah? Sky channel? The (It's just a flu) king making Murdoch media!?

If the people who produce the study mentioned are really serious they will stop sitting around producing totally useless studies, & go & get a job doing something useful.

The same thing goes for people who attend "CLIMATE" conferences.
