Clinching in the breach: Matt Hancock resigns : Comments

By Binoy Kampmark, published 2/7/2021

It had all the makings of a tabloid fix: the minister's name (Hancock), an aide, kissing, a leaking mole and CCTV.

Here's the thing. If you accept a highly rewarded position in public life? then you have to swallow all that goes with it! And impeccable behaviour as behoves the office!

Mr Hancok needed to resign given his private dalliances impacted negatively on his role in dealing competently with a killer pandemic that thus far has created more casualties than two world wars!

If you cannot abide the conditions that go with the job!? Don't accept the job or the generous salary and entitlements!

Unless the Chinese are totally stupid, which obviously they are not, then why would China bother to expose this low level breach of Hancock and risk giving their electronic eavesdropping activities away? Makes no sense.

More likely would be their own security agencies at the helm of this one, as is standard procedure all over.

Trump discovered just how damaging were his own untrustworthy security agencies. All of them nailed in to supporting Democrats.

And more example when Australian security was caught with its pants down, eavesdropping on the Prime Ministers office, East Timor, during ET negotiations concerning Timor Gap oil in 2004. That was under the watchful eye of “anything goes” Howard.

Dan. Better the Dems than an imposed (Putin's Man in Washington) Russian mole?

As for the Chinese? What evidence other than your usual speculation? That they were the source of the leak?

I mean if they had enough dirt? Surely they would not reveal but use it to gain another operative, inside the tent?

So what exactly did he get the old heave ho for> Feeling up his assistant, or not wearing a mask while he did it?

Hasbeen. From all I've heard, it was his peculiar digital explorations with his nimble digits that proved his downfall and the sense of entitlement, which you seem to share, that that was ok for someone with his power and position to do as he pleased with a junior employee?

As for not wearing a mask? That simply says to the rest of the world, I'm ok Jack the rest of you can go visit the nearest taxidermist, i.e., I don't give a C.R.A.P. if I transfer a killer virus to you or if it results in your premature demise?

Your flippant remarks and all too obvious lack of empathy, seem to tell us, that is also your too obvious attitude?

I believe parliament should like most workplaces in Oz, be a booze-free zone! Were that so? Many of the reported discretions occurring almost daily? Would disappear along with the all too obvious lack of respect that makes them possible!?

Sanctimonious claptrap Alan.

When 2 people work long hours together, in a serious job it can sometimes lead to emotional attachment. It does not matter which sex is boss & supporter, & the attraction can go either way, but is usually mutual.

I am not suggesting this is a good thing, particularly if one or both are cheating on a partner, but when you see the number of boss/secretary marriages it is obviously a fact of life.

That these events are often very costly for one or both involved shows it is a very bad idea, but perhaps unavoidable due to our nature.
