Reflections on the 'Year of Living on the Edge' with COVID-19 : Comments

By Ramesh Thakur and David Redman, published 2/3/2021

After a year’s experience of COVID-19 worldwide, the continuing hold of discredited mathematical models regarding lockdowns remain.

All governments have made a dog's breakfast of the China virus, which 99% of the population shrugged off - even if they knew that they had it. They have gone out of their way to make our lives miserable and poorer or rather, they have handed over their responsibilities to 'medical experts' who don't understand real life, particularly economics.

And there is more to come, now that they have seen how weak and docile people really are. China virus, plus climate change, plus the Great Reset. That's what we are going to have to live with - probably under Chinese domination.

In most Australia States that have been well locked down zero new COVID cases and zero deaths - NOW.

In countries that vacillated over lockdowns, eg. UK, France, and especially the US, millions of new cases and 100,000s of deaths...

OLO's anti-lockdowners will then state their quasi-Trump case.

One of the many ratbag organisations around these days, The Voice of International Students Australia, has set up a whine to "sensitise" our government to the plight of international students "stuck off shore".

What a cheek, when Australian citizens are not being allowed to return home.

Never mind the lockdown fallacy explain why the WHO declared Covid19 a pandemic with global supposed deaths at less than 2000?

Additionally, Oz and US stats no longer include deaths from annual flu, TB, and a myriad of other fatal diseases. They are all now classed as Covid-19 deaths?

I don’t subscribe to conspiracy theories but something just doesn’t add up.

You can have a million cases of Covid-19 but what is the real fatality percentage? Less than the normal annual flu!

I don’t understand why genuine questions are being put down as conspiracy related. When did Google, Facebook and unqualified medical personnel advising governments become experts on pandemic Covid-19 information?
Who are these new experts?

It adds up all right; property values are in afterburner mode, that makes for happy investors. Rents are falling, that makes for happy poor people.
Politicians are becoming Putin look alikes, untouchable. EG NSW Premier.
No, there are no problems with COVID lockdowns.

Just as so many people predicted! This mass stupidity allowed corrupt politicians to oppress us, ruin us and all for virtue signaling!
Where is the idiot who hides his name and calls himself Steel Redux? Someone who banged on about how Sweden was so stupid, turns out they had it right! How Hunchback Andrews of Victoria wasn't a stupid sociopath who reveled in cruelty but was a "Dear Leader", almost like a Father to little Steelie.
I am only more amazed by all the sheep that have allowed themselves to be treated like animals and shorn and slaughtered. When will this madness end?

The fact that it doesn't add up should tell you something in itself.
- That's your bullcrap meter going off.
And what its telling you is that there are other forces at work.
Other agendas and that things are not what they seem.

Now as to what those agendas are well I won't speculate.

All, it’s good to see I am not alone.

It makes one wonder how many in the general population are in agreement with my sentiments?

I have been watching and listening and I fear it does not bode well re government over reach. What’s next?

Cheers, Galen

Dear Galen,

You wrote: “Additionally, Oz and US stats no longer include deaths from annual flu, TB, and a myriad of other fatal diseases. They are all now classed as Covid-19 deaths?”

That is utterly untrue so why on earth do you claim it?

Here is the Australian Report including Flu deaths for the 2020 season which had only claimed 37 lives.

“In the year to the end of the 2020 season, of the 21,266 notifications of laboratory confirmed influenza, 37 (0.17%) laboratory-confirmed influenzaassociated deaths were notified to the National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System (NNDSS), the lowest rate reported in the last five years.”

There is no doubt that the Covid year will have impacted reporting to a degree but the social distancing measures have had an enormous moderating effect on infections.

The next reporting period starts in April this year.

Dear JBowyer,

What deeply degenerated part of your brain allows you to look at the Swedish figures and in any way claim they “had it right”?

Here are the figures: http://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/sweden/

Their second wave was a good deal worse than the first claiming around 7,000 and 5,000 deaths respectively and there is every indication they are about to enter a third wave. This in a population not much bigger than NSW.

Even the King of the country has said its approach had failed. Yet there you are, a little ideological keyboard warrior ignoring the bleeding obvious because it might fray your politics a bit.

Can I invite you to stop being pathetic just for a little bit.

SteeleRedux,
That's Sweden, what about the rest of the World ? Do you have any figures as to how much pollution has been curbed due to COVID-19.

SR, what's your real name? The fact is that Sweden did no worse than their neighbours in deaths but infinitely better economically! Thats a fact but you prefer abuse. I cannot be bothered with you, you pompous, overblown, sniveling coward who hides his name!

Dear JBowyer,

This is what I put to Hasbeen on another thread.

Quote

Quarter 2 GDP

Sweden -8.0%
Denmark -7.1%
Norway -4.3%
Finland -3.9%

Sweden got hammered the worse with the biggest contraction.

Quarter 3 recovery figures

Denmark +5.2%
Sweden +4.9%
Norway +4.6%
Finland +3.3%

http://tradingeconomics.com/sweden/gdp-growth

So the cumulative positions over the 2 quarters are as follows;

Norway 100.1%
Finland 99.2%
Denmark 97.7%
Sweden 95.5%

End quote.

You were involved in that thread yet you choose to come out with the absolutely false statement, contrary to all the evidence, that “The fact is that Sweden did no worse than their neighbours in deaths but infinitely better economically!”

No it absolutely and demonstrably did not as shown above.

Now the latest 4th quarter 2020 figures are in and Sweden was the only Scandinavian country to go backwards.

Norway 0.6%
Finland 0.4%
Denmark 0.6%
Sweden -0.2%
http://tradingeconomics.com/sweden/gdp-growth

Further these are the death figures per 100,000 of each.

Norway 11.6%
Finland 13.8%
Denmark 40.8%
Sweden 127.8%
http://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries

You sir are so utterly divorced from the truth you are certifiable. Go get some help.

And please don't sook up. You summoned me with “Where is the idiot who hides his name and calls himself Steel Redux?” so I came and torched you once again. That is masochism on your behalf. We must do it again some time.

Steele, your most recent post quotes ‘Worldometer’.

I provide the following information taken from their website: “ Worldometer is run by an international team of developers, researchers, and volunteers with the goal of making world statistics available in a thought-provoking and time relevant format to a wide audience around the world. It is published by a small and independent digital media company based in the United States.”

Now I know it also claims a load of other glowing material about its independence and high standing in society, but please don’t take their results as accurate.

Look where they source their data from, it clearly demonstrates bias and fits in with the promoted mantra being peddled by the very governments and organisations who wish to see further totalitarian goals achieved. I guess I will now be labelled as your new conspiracy theorist.

No it doesn't at all so why say it? They take official government reports. Are you really trying to make the case that they and the Swedish government have inflated the figures or that the other Scandinavian countries have deflated theirs? That is bonkers.

Mate these are not third world countries. You really need to stop drinking the Koolaid my friend else it will end in tears and shame.

A small edit.

The figures I provided for Covid deaths per 100,000 of population should of course be without the percentage sign.

Norway 11.6
Finland 13.8
Denmark 40.8
Sweden 127.8

There is simply no correlation between mortality outcomes and lockdown-type policies. This has been confirmed by several scientific papers, but you can see it here: https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/government-response-stringency-index-vs-biweekly-change-in-confirmed-covid-19-cases?time=latest

Afghanistan, Mauritius and Yemen are clearly outliers, the others are all distributed evenly across the upper part of the chart from left to right.
