LEGO,

A long time ago someone referred to the creation of post-WW2 African nation-states as the White Man's Burden.

And it now looks like the chickens have come home to roost.

LEGO,

It has been said by some Zimbabweans (Rhodesians) that the only thing worse than being ruled by the British is not being ruled by the British.

Disagree with the analysis and conclusions as too much focus upon population (growth) and fertility that is not evidenced by recent research, and too little on political, economic mismanagement and small middle class elites.

Bricker & Ibbotson and others have actively researched various nations' fertility (related to population in 'Empty Planet') and regarding sub-Saharan Africa, fertility is actually/forecast to be declining due to improved education, health and empowerment of women.

A decade ago Oxford Martin School's Ian Goldin stated that with ageing and declining populations (already happening in Europe, in Oz our permanent population is treading water ex. modest immigration), African human resources swill play part of the solution through migration. This is for employment and paying taxes, hence, western nations will be in competition trying to build relationships and encourage immigration; not shut themselves off from the world.
