The sine wave in politics : Comments

By Don Aitkin, published 23/11/2020

First there were kings and nobles and knights and peasants. While the kings had the power, and were supported by the knights, there was nothing much the peasants could do.

Don, give that grandkid Thomas Piketty and Eric Kaufmann.

The first demonstrates, that both Labor and Liberal now chase the votes of the elites. There is no party for the unwashed.

The second demonstrates that it is not a moral crime for the unwashed to question open borders. So far, Morrison is running the better line on China

Good thinking article Uncle Don.

History repeats. An increasing mob are unwillingly divorced from the money, ( and are now pissing into the tents of the rich), through an economic system that divides along the lines of opportunity.

Inclusion assists with peace, the opposite results from greed and exclusion.

I'm having a hard time seeing the division these days.
The words might be different but the actions are increasingly indiscernible.

Not too much has changed, Don? And some might even say we've gone backward with some things much worse?

Politics used to be honourable and democracy used to mean by the people, for the people and of the people!

And once the facts and the truth meant something to those conscripted to higher office! Nowadays the truth seems to be, anything I say it is, for those in positions of power?

We've fought two world wars where millions have laid done their lives/ sacrificed their sanity for the aforementioned honour, democracy and principled decency! All of it squandered on the altar of power for its own sake, by those the least deserving of high office and our trust!?

Culminating in a mad uncle with his finger on the nuclear trigger, refusing to accept the peoples' verdict?

How many chances does the human race have, before it runs out of chances!?

When the world put its mind to it we can be very decent, cooperative and caring, with the rescue of a trapped football team in those caves being a classic example or when that Chinese city was torn down by that monster quake.

It was on those and similar occasions that we were able to set aside perceived difference and act like the decent compassionate humans most of us can be! And needed now as never before! Preferably before we run out of time!

Interesting analogy Don Aitkin. I'm not sure if you have read Patrick Deneen- but he talks about "the ratchet of freedom".
