I suppose we could all imagine it, but most of us are content to stay in our own country. People who want to live elsewhere, and return when it suits them, are the only ones affected by all this 'totalitarianism'. Not much good being a tenth generation Australian (as claimed) if you don't actually live here.

Imagine coming home from a country where the virus is less under control, and picking up the virus in the days before you fly out. Imagine also that, since you feel okay, authorities let you through, to go home to your loved ones and friends who all fly and drive in from the regions to see you, to go shopping and clubbing together in your old favourite places, to take your relations' kids to the pictures, maybe sharing ice-creams after.

Gosh, wouldn't it be luverley ? But, is it possible, without getting hysterical about it all, that one of your rellies then travel backs home, through a number of country towns, staying at a couple of motels on the way, and back to their job at the local hospital, and to their circle of friends and relations. A few days later, that person starts to feel crook, waits for it to go away, then gets tested.

But wait a minute, haven't you and that other person got the right to be free citizens, to go wherever they like, see whoever they like ? They didn't cause this virus, so why should they pay the penalty of incarceration ? Just because you may have a 'little flu', does that mean that you have to be locked up in some tiny 2m x 2m cell, with no window, water or toilet facilities, and only one meal of bread and water each cday, as if you are a criminal ?

But isn't it everybody else's responsibility, if they don't want to get the virus, to mask up and keep a social distance - it's not yours or mine ? Why should it be this particular citizen's responsibility to watch out incessantly and obsessively for the health of someone else who recklessly mixes with whoever they like ?

Isn't hype and hysteria fun ?

Joe I have a question? In the past when was this nonsense imposed on us? I was a kid in the 1950's Polio epidemic where every school had a few survivors (Calipers or wheelchair), 1950's Flu killed over a million and 1960's flu killed over a million. So many teachers that they talked of school closure but after a World War most people would have laughed of such a cowardly action.
This Covid is just the new common cold, a disease that has assailed us since we stood on our hind legs. Now we lose our economy and our freedom thanks to jackboot Andrews.
So what is the end game Joe? Vaccine that is a very highly priced billion dollar waste of money on nonsense! As soon as one country opens up we will want to follow except some people who like to be bossed and bullied. Bed wetting masochists apart there is a head of steam building on this stupidity and lets cheer on the Trump victory. Yes Joe I said that just to fire you up lol!

Jim,

You could be right - thirty million people with the virus (and that might be an under-estimate) and nearly a million deaths - maybe that's nothing unusual year after year in terms of world deaths. And anyway, we all have to die some time. Just let us all know when you're about to go, and we'll write nice things about you ;). Or at least, try.

But on the other hand, Australia - indeed the world - have put up with far worse things than this pissy virus, even just in the last century. I remember when we couldn't wear Presley Purple or Sinatra Red socks to school, and teachers would be posted outside picture theatres to stop us from watching rock 'n' roll movies. Dreadful times. Where was our sovereign freedom rights then ? If all lives matter, so do those of ratbags, I'm sure you would agree.

Perhaps you're right, it's all a fraud, there's no such thing as this so-called 'Corona virus', and anyway it will all be gone, as if by magic, by next Easter. And surely it's better to have the economy open so that people can make money, even if there is the tiny risk of 'infections' ?

After all, Australia has lost only eight hundred people to this so=-called virus - or that's what they want you to think, that it's the virus. And obviously, any so-called 'vaccine' is just a ploy for Bill Gates to fit us all with nano-chips so that 5G and the Chinese can monitor our every move. It's all a communist plot anyway, why can't everybody see that ?

If you're reading this, so can they, so I'm probably already dead.

What a soft-centre jelly, self-centred whimp of the first water! 6 out of 7 carriers have few if any symptoms? Yet around the globe over 15,000,000 infected and over 1,000,000 dead prematurely. Millions others premanently damaged with shortened lives.

One can be, Asmptomatic, but with few if any symptoms! But can be extremely infectious, super spreaders. As identified by Joe, so well!

When you've lived alone for over 20 years and crippled, yet doing mostly everything for yourself by yourself, get back to me and have a bit of a whinge!

[Mummy, they made me, sob gasp, stay in a, sob gasp, hotel room for a whole, sob gasp, fortnight by myself and, sob gasp, entirely alone! They didn't even give me a menu but delivered the chef's choice to my door. Whine whimper. And no wine list. How primitive!]

Until then, man up, show that you are more than just a (sob, Mummy, where's Teddy) spoilt jelly blob, with zero empathy!

Hi Alan,

My siblings all live in NZ, and I'm certainly planning to visit at the first opportunity, from Kaitaia (where my dad is buried in a Dalmatian cemetery) down to Dunedin and a couple of places in between. I take for granted that I might have to do a fortnight in quarantine, at my own expense. Fair enough. I don't have any special right to infect anybody in NZ.

And maybe another fortnight in quarantine when I get back. Okay, if it keeps everybody else safe. It might be a long trip.

Cheers,

Joe

You seem to be in the minority, J Bond. Aussies overseas are clamoring to come home and happy to do the quarantine if that's what it takes. Refugees and homeless folk around the globe would give their eye teeth for a cozy hotel room to avoid the virus. Australians overwhelmingly support our border closures, both state and national and we are giving thanks that we have our big moat.

We as a nation listened to the 'experts' get every climate prediction wrong for the last 50 years and still destroyed our cheap electricity. Now we listened to the health bureaucrats who also got every prediction wrong while scaring the life out of people. Some are still dumb enough to think harsh lockdowns have saved lives. One day they might think and see that places like New York and Victoria has the harshest lockdowns with the most deaths in those countries. The 'experts' tell us that a baby born with a penis is not a male. You need to spend 10 years studying to work that out. One day gutless politicians will stop hiding behind 'experts' and do what is right for the people. Somehow I think it might be to late as Morrison is finding out.

Runner,

Thanks to lock-downs, Australia and NZ between them have had half as many Covid deaths as Alabama. There are still around a thousand deaths each day in the US. They haven't really got out of their first wave yet in most US states.

Only 49 days to go ! But I pity Joe Biden having to pick up all of the pieces of Trumpf's broken America in January.

With NO lockdowns and a population similar to Australia's, Taiwan had only 7 deaths. Their economy hasn't been wrecked, either. All lefties suck up to Asians, but when an Asian country comes out on top - spitting distance from the cause of the virus - they don't want to know about it.

by your logic Joe

'Thanks to lock-downs, Australia has hundreds of times the death of Taiwan.' But of course your tds always gets the better of you. Hope for our sake its not 1460 days to go. Your tds has turned you into one irrational dude.

Diddums. Did the poor little girl have to come down to earth for a change, & recognise there are other people on this earth, & we actually value them at least the equal of this spoiled brat.

I am not a fan of extreme lock downs, but am totally in favor of locking up all travelers coming from anywhere with high virus levels. If our author wants to flit around the world, she will have to understand quarantine is for the safety of residents of her destination which is important, not her convenience. If she doesn't like it, she can not come at all.

We don't give a damn where you were born love, we can do without your sort here in Oz, now & forever.

Perhaps all you bed wetting jackboot andrews apologists would like to look in your crystal balls? See the Australian daily death toll is about 430 per day. How do the current Covid numbers equate? They just don't!
Andrews will eventually have to raise his Vicpol boot from our necks and then what? Vaccine, hahahahaha! Against the Common Cold virus I thought we never had one?
Anyway he will just lie and say I won and there are no Covid deaths now you have taken the vaccine. I thought Andrews was a total fool but hearing you idiots I can now understand "In the country of the blind, the one eyed man is king".
Anyone here actually have to work for a living and not in the public service?

Hi Runner,

Sorry for the delay: the four-poster rule.

You cogently remark: "'Thanks to lock-downs, Australia has hundreds of times the death of Taiwan. "

I think you mean, " .... hundreds of times the number of Covid-19 deaths in Taiwan."

Perhaps not hundreds. But aren't you glad that Taiwan didn't follow the Fairweather-President's rule of 'Pass the Buck to Whoever You Can' - if they had, they would have had fourteen thousand Covid deaths - so far - instead of seven. A differential of two thousand times: one death in Taiwan for every two thousand in the US.

Do you reckon Trumpf will ever mention Taiwan in any of his rants ?

Someone is doing something right, and it clearly ain't your Marvel-comic hero, with his near-two-hundred-thousand deaths. And counting. I wonder if it's not too late for the US to learn from Taiwan. Or from Mr Morrison here in Australia, for that matter.

one day Joe you might get over your tds and realise the virus came from China, was sent throughout the world by China and more than likely escaped from a Chinese lab. That is why it is so amusing that you ignore Nancy's invitation to Chinese new year feasts and ignore your namesake calling Trump racist and xenophobic for cancelling flights from China. No doubt Biden would have no memory of this or for anything he said yesterday. At least your contradictions are consistently dishonest Joe.

Sorry, Runner, what's your point ?

Trumpf has presided over 200,000 deaths from Covid-19. Here in Australia (I don't know where you write from, but I guess there are plenty of caves in Wyoming, make sure you've got plenty of toilet paper), Morrison has overseen less than a thousand. In Taiwan, she has presided over a tiny handful.

If Trumnpf had learnt anything from the Taiwanese president, and organised a nation-wide co-ordination of governors and mayors (like Morrison did here), he might have kept the death numbers down to fewer than a thousand. So, 199,000 Americans have died needlessly - so far, because of Trumpf. QED.

But as you claim, if we can pinpoint the cause as a virus originating in China, then we can reverse all that, bring people back from the dead, and everything will be all right.

Sorry, no, I don't think so.

Joe
