Thousands of registered migration agents in Australia to lose accreditation : Comments

By Murray Hunter, published 14/9/2020

When the bill comes into effect early next year, more than 60,000 lawyers in Australia, including those without any knowledge and skills in migration law, can freely provide immigration assistance, without paying an annual registration fee.

Obviously, this innovation will cut out the poor immigrant in favour of the wealthy,
with minimal effect on the latest waters from the open floodgate of Hong Kong.

Why am I sooo cynical?

diver dan,

Sydney is already a Chinese city and I don't think bringing in tens of thousands of more Chinese each month will make any difference.

Australia is an Asian nation-state as a result of the Great Asianization Period (1980-2020) in Australian history and everybody needs to accept it.

In vain, I suppress my heaving sobs, at this vast injustice.

Who benefits from the myriad complexities and sub-classes of our mass migration system? The political parties, the GDP, state and city governments, the developers, a conga-line of rent-seekers, the migrants too. Most everyone, except us.

What happened to Keneally's mini rebellion, pro Australian workers? She copped the lazy charge of racism, Albanese sent her away for the factory-reset. Similar happened to Berejiklian, in 2018. Be a good while before any else breaks ranks.

I'd like to see a healthy mentality migrant import in favour of the dumbed-down local product of recent decades.
A stirring up of the gene pool is definitely well overdue !

There should be no migration agents. There should be almost no immigration, and that which is necessary for the good of the country should be entirely between the relevant government department and the aspiring immigrant. Where people get paid for something, there is always the possibility of graft and corruption

so surprised to see how this vast injustice has been in existence for so long? It must be a very sophisticated game play as leading the whole parliament to introduce and pass a bill is not an easy work.

really confused why the Australian government has not discovered this and corrected this very critical issue? anything behind?

There should be no migration agents.
ttbn,
if i could get a Dollar for every time I said exactly that I could get Paul1405 off my neck.
I feel really sorry for those genuine decent folk who paid their life savings to Immigration for nothing simply because the Agents asked for too much up front & people believed going straight to Immigration would be the right thing to do.
So, only those with money came to Australia & now we're copping the result of the rorts.
The poor decent applicants were left with nothing. I wonder how their thousands of Dollars paid to Immigration were distributed !
We need to import brains to replace the deadened local ones. I'm certain that if asked, new, young migrants would jump to the opportunity to start life in Australia with a non-military national Service & they would become better Australians than the ones that have been bred here since that Goaf dismantled the National Service.

One believes all those displaced by this legislation will move to Dutton's marginal and other marginal coalition electorates along with their, also voting family and friends. So they can bring some pressure to bear where and when it counts? Or, just roll over and beg for a tummy rub, or study law and get your degree?

The remedy is entirely in your own hands!? And as far as I'm aware, you get paid to learn in a earn or learn paradigm? I mean, one does not need to go to a university to study a particular branch of law/get accreditation? I know of several retired Judges who'd do it pro bono?

Looks like Peter Dutton is based in Strathpine Northern Suburbs of Brisbane. I wish him well. It seems like quite a few with traditional views come from Queensland. Kudos.

I agree with you ttbn.

Migrant consumers would be the worst affected. They will be compelled to pay the heavy lawyer's fees and at the same time put their future in the hands of a person without any knowledge or training of migration procedures and processes. No thought was given about consumers' needs when handing a blanket approval to more than 60000 lawyers irrespective of whether they are trained or skilled in migration procedures. Is this the way of creating a world class migration service?

Consumers will be the biggest losers. More than 60,000 lawyers including those who have no knowledge or skills in migration law can freely provide poor quality migration advice to vulnerable consumers and charge hefty legal fees.
How would this create a world class migration service?

As a professional migrant who has had to utilise the service of a non-lawyer RMA for the processing of my partner visa several years ago, my experience has been excellent. The migration frameworks are extremely complex as this article highlights, so it is of real concern that lawyers will have the authority to service clients without formal training and knowledge in migration practices. Australia’s migration industry will inevitably take a hit as migration services take the form of a double-edged sword for clients through higher costs and poorer results.

Speaking from my personal experience and from background which can be grouped as a "vulnerable immigration customer", I am forever grateful for having been nurtured and cared for by my non-lawyer RMA for the last six years. Have finally become an australian citizen, I dealt with both lawyers and non-lawyer RMA for business and personal life. The two industries are world away. One, fuelled by greed and personal gain and the other, driven by passion and compassion. Non-lawyer RMAs are small business owners who really care about the consequences of their actions. Many times I have been unfortunate enough to come across lawyers who are out of touch and are there to just tick boxes, spend as much or as little time as possible on your case depending on how deep your pocket is. Bottomline is the Migration Amendment Bill 2019 is not the benefit of the majority but the privileged minority. The story we hear way too often.
