Free speech be damned: Joshua Krook and the Australian Public Service : Comments

By Binoy Kampmark, published 27/8/2020

A featured blog post in the 'Oxford Political Review', authored in April by Joshua Krook, suggested that COVID-19 had brought a host of benefits for big tech companies.

The Krook decision confirms the Pezzullo-Campbell guide for APS comment.

Free APS speech rabidly in favour of the government is warmly approved, indeed recommended, for career advancement purposes.

Of course, other forms of free APS speech are also allowed, but they are not protected. The employer reserves the right to harass, demote, or dismiss.

More important that after retiring at the optimal 58 years ex-APS officers remain bitter and twisted.

Maybe remain on the gravy train as a consultant or write barely read things.

Lucky, creative, ones can skip bitterness by writing blogs with many pageviews http://gentleseas.blogspot.com/

I believe in freedom of speech! I also believe in delivering what you sign up for, what you are paid for. And if that means keeping stuff you know about under your hat, because official secrecy is part of your contractual obligations, then keep it under your hat/take it to your grave!

If you don't like the non-partisan conditions that apply to highly paid public service jobs/official secret act? Then don't put your John Hancock on the dotted line! Keep your knowledge under your hat, except where there is a clear violation of human rights or a crime! End of story.
