This is exactly how would be totalitarian regimes come into power - they "cleanse" the body politic of all the "poisonous" elements.
Be careful what you pray (prey) for.
You may invoke/precipitate a war of all against all.
Who is going to define who are "enemies of the people", and when will the killing stop?
Anyone for a fascist state!
Fortunately such a scenario is highly unlikely in Australia.
Who are the elites?
This essay was featured in the Australian "news"-paper which is very much a mouthpiece for the elites who REALLY rule the world - as distinct from the dreaded proponents of "cancel" or "woke" culture.
The Australian is of course owned by a member of the super elite who has via his tabloid "news"-papers has arguably done more to undermine democracy in Australia, the UK and the USA.
It seems to me that a law professor should be included as a member of the elite..
And a lot of lawyers too, especially those that work for large corporations.
How many former lawyers (especially from the corporate sector) are now, and have been members of the Federal Parliament, especially members of the Liberal party. Not many would have worked (or still do) for community legal centres.
It could be said that the "cancel"/woke phenomenon is the left-wing version of the right-wing Tea Party movement. The principal difference is that the "cancels" have no real political power whereas the TPM did and does.
