In NSW, RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons has been in charge of this unstoppable monster for the last 12 years, while sustainable land management has been not only neglected, but prevented.

Only a slight deviation from the subject, Joe! But marvellous news all the same. Justice for Pell at last.It was a unanimous decision by the High Court. The end of the most disgraceful legal fit up in Australia's history. It's to be hoped that the Catholic church or Pell himself sues the hell out of the Victorian anti-Catholic, Christophobe government.

Alan B as someone with a great intolerance for smoke the goats seem a good idea but my neighbour used to have a flock. He said the curly coated little bludgers did not eat everything and needed supplementary feeding in summer when it was dry? I read there are about 2.6 million feral goats and their numbers fluctuate with feed availability.
I don't wish to be disagreeable but wonder how this can work. I would think the authorities are collecting data on ferals but only with the idea of eradication, not using them. I would be interested in your thoughts on this and why not write a piece on this subject?

Given that NSW recently experienced the most damaging bushfires for at least the last 18 years, it is difficult to understand why the RFS commissioner should be promoted rather than being demoted.

Given that non-screening of the Ruby Princess by the NSW Dept of Health resulted in over 600 coronavirus cases – including some 12 fatalities -- it is surprising that Minister Hazzard went out of his way to praise his senior bureaucrats rather than fire the grossly negligent.

And now will the administrators of the Victorian justice system be chastised for the miscarriage of justice involving Cardinal Pell? Don’t bet on it!

It is evident that State government bureaucrats can continue to count on “a job for life”, regardless of how they perform.

I arrived her form UK in 1990, within 2 days, my mentoring Prof said welcome to the Rum Corps state... after 30 years his words still riding true... such is the hubris and arrogance of " the Bluffocracy of NSW. Rum is no longer their reward, but $500,000 PLUs salaries!

"Unless government land managers are made responsible for all suppression costs on their land then there is absolutely no incentive to undertake management that will reduce the hazards and make suppression cheaper and easier."
Damn, never a truer verse spoken.

@jamo you are 100% correct. No incentive for mitigation.
