If price gouging or profiteering takes place? It's because compliant or corrupt administrations that can prevent it, instead allow or even actively encourage it?

It has to be exposed wherever and result in some hard prison time or exile.

Exile would be my first preference, given we all of us/the victims, would be better off without these R soles doing their thing in our midst?

Human nature and all that crap? Who needs it and why should we, any of us, tolerate this rabid dog eat rabid dog behaviour, for one minute longer than is unavoidable!

Especially now! It's tough enough already!

Lock them up and throw away the key!

AJ,

To expand: I am well over people giving sermons on subjects that they are no more qualified in than their readers are.

Good article Charles by pointing out all the rent seekers and grave dancers. My main concern is now our economy is not only on its knees but shattered that we will be begging for bread. The only good from that is that the Chinese could not care less about the man made gw myth. Hope people enjoy socialism for the next 6 months!

Tbbn, wise up he has 40 years water industry and academic and regulatory experience I would dream to have access to.

As for NSW Health. Dr Kerry Chant is on 500k + a year, and has misled Brad 'Hazard to shipping' to a career killing position. She hasn't woken up to that fact she has not only killed Australia economy but people by her @ low risk assessment process. Heads must roll and NSW Health, EPA and Treasury? held to task on this disaster.

tbbn did you actual read it, or do you just not like Essery, jealous perchance?

I want more on this, its the bureaucratic mismanagement disaster of the 21st Australan century. Hope it isn't surpassed, but then we do have the CCC brigasde, and they hate being upstaged,

AS I think I said before, those like tbbn Aidan et at who dislike Essery, check out the may 2005 Quentin Dempster ( Walkley award winner) over desalination/drought, its worth a half hour to watch and then review Aiden etal and Tbbn's judgement. A friend from melblrene said they sae Essery on the seminar run by media to stop their desal plant I 2009. Trying to track it down.

come on Alison you really don't think any public servants will lose their jobs do you. I am sure every HR Department is full of people ensuring gender equity despite ability, gw alarmist positions and every other UN invoked abomination. Meanwhile we employ an extra 1500 public servants to attend to those sacked in real jobs. Would it be great if the abc was sliced in half, public servants took a 20% pay cut and the pain was spread. Oh well the privileged will still claim victim status, play identity politics and c ap on the rest. No wonder people are turning to Trump n droves.

Bit of a dog's breakfast of an article.

But I do agree that 'BoJo' is a frightful little opportunist who has somehow managed to pivot from 'shaking hands with all and sundry' including corona virus patients much to the dismay of health official, and possibly infecting his health minister, and ultimately infecting himself, to a Churchillian figure?

Very much wishful thinking on his part. People will not forget what a twit he has been and likely still is. How brainless do you have to be and just how many people he passed the virus on to with his irresponsible behaviour will not likely be known.

Tbbn, you make reasonable comments many times, but what is it you missed. The article is about economics, editors classification, not mine. Its about crisis management, nor virology. I can assure you that would not be interesting, as the microbiologists I know can hardly communicate in English, let alone write a coherent argument. The author has a solid track record in water industry in science and water. . Water industry, his senior role as Chief Water and Sewerage Engineer in NSW is a statutory SES position in NSW, as are many long-standing positions like Chief Med Officer ( Dr Kerry 'poor risk assessment' Chant will hold one of similar rank, as would Land Surveyor General.... If you are not from NSW, check your on states legislation, they all are similar. Water industry has moved un from pipes and pumps, and I reckon if he a scientist holding a statutory Chief Engr position might have been chosen for that. Finally, Crypto 1998. If he was involved at centre of it, he might just know about viruses and water treatment, the killer of waterborne viruses like Crypto/giardia, the world most endemic water borne pair of spores and cysts.

Get to the point, read the article and don't troll the man... Do you have ' history' with him... a jilted relationship, a stolen girlfriend....

Get real people read the damned articles get off your hobby horse ( Yes you Steel-rednuts, CCC). Focus on the article. Authors across OLO must put pro-bono effort for our behalf. If you can't contribute to the discussion of their articles say nothing.

Otherwise, why should they bother if you don't read them? Wake up and stop being so self focused.

Suggest topic 'COViD-19/96gg, causal links to co2'..pleaescredit me as source, even Essery, whose excellent article inspired me to suggest the title to you!

Alan B did you send that confidential msr paper?, cheers AJ

don't think any public servants will lose their jobs
runner,
Nor should they but a reduction in some of their salaries is not only morally warranted but would also help the Nation. Let's face it, the benefit to the Nation's performance wouldn't change but the coffers would last longer. Any Public Service salary above $200,000/year should be reduced. These salaries are excessive at the best of times. That includes the ABC/SBS.
A tightening of the belt on the girth of Australia is in order.
It would lead us into a better & sustainable economy.

Spot on individual,.... but its "their ABC", not "our ABC"...and that's why DR 'stormin' Norman Swan and the rest of them have set themselves up as the alternative government and been the main source of confusion over COVID-19/96gg crisis.....and then scream that the government is sending out mixed-messages

Like the "Chai-na" virus and Chai-neese government, "their ABC" cronies must be held to account ( not by Ita Butrose fake internal review) for their behaviour when the dust settles from this crisis
