Interreligious dialogue and multilateral diplomacy : Comments

By Ioan Voicu, published 30/12/2019

More than a quarter of the world's countries experienced in recent years a high incidence of conflicts or hostilities motivated by religious intolerance, mob violence related to religion, terrorism, and harassment of people for violating religious codes.

They have to be kidding !
The origin of all this is the Pakistan government and the Organisation
of Islamic Countries. The proposal is that Sharia compliant laws be
implemented in all countries.
In particular the requirement on blasphemy as understood by Pakistan
is a minimum requirement.

I notice that Austria has signed up, despite considerable protest and
almost losing an election.
The requirements on "Hate" cannot be met by the Koran and it would
have to be banned if the publicity was to be believed.

I thought this proposal had died a natural death but it must have
been lurking in the shadows.

A bunch of bla bla bla kumbayah bs....

First of all, this UN declaration was adopted 12/12/18, not in 2019.

Secondly, look at who sponsors this: Pakistan? Thailand? China? etc... and many islamic countries known for religious intolerance. Obviously the document is not worth the paper it is printed on.

Last of all, these sugar coated declarations always have an "exception" clause somewhere. Try this in Operative 12 "...everyone has the right to freedom of expression, and reaffirms that the exercise of this right carries with it special duties and responsibilities and may therefore be subject to certain restrictions..."

So "freedom", according to this resolution, must be restricted, controlled, monitored and approved. No, thank you.

When Islamic nation's no longer punish conversions away from Islam, (Muslims converting to Christianity, converting to Hinduism, to atheism, ect...), that's when I'll take their support for interreligous peace seriously.

I think there are enough in most other religions to strive for peace between religions, even with the issues of not agreeing with eachother. But with Islam, there is no peace. Several things in Islam need to change in order to believe peace is a serious venture.
