1. Identities overlap.
2. Identities inevitably conflict with each other, at some point. 3. There is no perfect world. 4. Cultural practices are manifestly not equal: is Nazi culture equal to, say, the recent Kurdish cultural practice of dying for a good cause ? Are two societies equal, in one of which it is proper and mandatory for a man to kill or maim his wife or child if they disobey him, but not so in another ? Are there any cultural practices, dear reader, which YOU find abhorrent, such as forcible sex in marriage ? Should women walk three paces behind their ruling man (father, brother, husband) ? Is genital mutilation generally acceptable ? Let's move on from this idiocy. Joe Posted by Loudmouth, Monday, 4 November 2019 1:33:58 PM

5. Dickens, Shakespeare, Virginia Woolfe, Margaret Atwood, Chekhov, Goethe, etc., etc., wrote about characters which they did not fully resemble - men write about women, women write about men. Historical novels are about people in different times and societies, so living writers shouldn't write about people in those different times ? Wow, there goes 'Othello' and 'The Merchant of Venice'.
6. So Black writers, such as James Baldwin , E. R. Braithwaite ('To Sir With Love'), Chinua Achebe, Alice Walker, etc., etc. can't depict non-Black characters ? Amy Tan can write only about Chinese characters ? Kath Walker shouldn't have mentioned whitefellas in any of her poems ? V. S. Naipaul and Salman Rushdie can write only about Indian or Pakistani characters ? Too stupid to waste time on. Joe Posted by Loudmouth, Monday, 4 November 2019 1:43:36 PM

Elizabeth Warren was happy to take the place of a native Indian in college. I mean she was 1/1024th native Indian. The more degrees the unis dish out the dumber we become.

Everyone's a critic. As long as they don't actually stop you from being able to write as you see fit, then take it for what it is and no more. You can't please everyone. Some times the critics have merit. Often they have nothing more then different tastes. Unless the literary judge is an actual judge, none of this matters more then then someone complaining about the "in thing" to complain about. Apparently that in thing is to drive standards against diverse stories because they don't like the details of the writers. (Not the details of the story).
The critism has no merit, so move on. Write anyways. Posted by Not_Now.Soon, Monday, 4 November 2019 4:34:02 PM

The whole worlds full of crap.
You get people being censored for their online speech everywhere; Yet you can still watch good old KKK favourites on YouTube such as: Johnny Rebel 'Who Likes a N*gger' http://youtu.be/AQlBRGEemtw And 'Some N*ggers Never Die" http://youtu.be/O17yg_Qci5Q They're perfectly fine. The US screams to the world about it's democratic values; - But has no problem stealing $45 million dollars worth of oil a month from Syrian kids futures. “We’re keeping the oil,” Trump said during a speech to police officers in Chicago. “Remember that, I’ve always said that. Keep the oil. We want to keep the oil — $45 million a month — keep the oil. We’ve secured the oil.” http://time.com/5712844/pentagon-syria-oil-fields-islamic-state-trump/ I repeat: The whole worlds full of crap. Posted by Armchair Critic, Monday, 4 November 2019 7:59:23 PM

Does it mean they cannot write about whites or blacks ?
Or does it mean they can write about half of each ?
What about a white man who says he identifies as a black woman ?
Who can he write about ?
This mad subject is not even worth discussing.
Academics who discuss it should be sacked for wasting time.
