I always liken the rise of the US to that of ancient Rome. There are just so many similarities it is uncanny. Ridding themselves of a monarchy, creating a republic, and establishing themselves as a military power maintaining a universal peace. Rome stood for a thousand years. I wonder if the US will do the same. Is China the barbarian knocking at the gates of the new Rome?

Everybody belongs to social groups, usually several at one time. People belonging to social groups love to display their membership of whichever group they belong to, and which hold in deep esteem. Some people wave flags, Sikhs proudly wear their turbans, surfies wear their Billabong T shirts, and bikies wear their colours.

But today, a new and increasingly numerous class of graduates exists who think that they are God's gift to the human race. Lacking flags, turbans, T shirts, or colours, their identifying feature is a slavish adherence to PC attitudes. Chief among these attitudes is that Nationalism is akin to Nazism. So, rejecting Nationalism in it's entirety, this new class defines themselves as "citizens of the world", globalists, Earth firsters, and world savers.

Naturally, these socialist egalitarians reflexively recoil at anything that could be construed as Nationalist, which they think is a vice which is only prevalent among the inferior peasant class, and the crass commercial class. A true socialist egalitarian therefore reacts in horror if the USA has a military parade, the first one in it's history.

Which is kind of strange, when you remember just how popular military parades are within the socialist totalitarian states that these guys seem to admire. There seems to be a sort of "cognitive dissonance" (hypocrisy) at work here. If Red China or the Ruskies have regular military parades, that is OK, because these people are all peace loving. But if the USA has one, eeeeek! They are all lickspittle, fascist, Nazi, running dogs.

Of course, one reason why Binoy would not like to see a military parade in Australia is because our entire armed forces would go past the saluting dias in about five minutes flat. And that would be embarrassing. Australia has 60 M1A2 tanks in it's entire Army. ONE Russian Armoured Division has 325 tanks, with several types of other armoured vehicles which do not even exist in the Australian Army. Even poverty stricken The Philippines has 400 M1A2 tanks. Still, we do have wind farms ( prayer wheels) and trendy, hip Darlinghurst is awash in cocaine.
