Mahathir is, I believe, the principle problem and got back into power with nice words and popular sentiment!? Promising to step aside once Anwer cleared some administrative hurdles!?

And we are still waiting for that promise to be fulfilled! Mahathir the dictator is alive and well, succeeded last time with Anwer a competent treasurer at his side and keeping the economy going ahead and robust under his watch.

Now with his old talons now back on the levers of power, there is every cause for alarm! But particularly with the exposed secrecy over policy paradigms and the fact that the leopard is unable to change his old spots or racial prejudices!? The future does not augur well for a deeply divided Malaysia?

Albeit, Mahathir needs to be mindful of his Chinese diaspora and the rise and rise of a very powerful China to his north! Who would likely use his own suppression of and discrimination against the local Chinese diaspora, as an excuse to get involved?

Malaysia like Australia to small economically or militarily to do much more than kiss ass?

"The daughter of the deputy prime minister disassociated herself from the government, quitting all her government and party posts because she believes the government is on the wrong track."

Which track is she opposed to?
The free ride she was getting from nepotism?

Judging others on your own highly flawed standards again, A.C. innocent until proven guilty! How about giving the Lady the benefit of the doubt mate, before rushing to judgement, as always!

Alan,
The much deeper problem is summed up here:

"Finally in the words of the prolific writer and political commentator Azly Rahman ‘Our government is still clinging to the straight-jacket of our own apartheid system, still clinging onto the idea that only Malay-bumiputera have special rights’. This is a tragic paradigm."

The struggle for equal rights for all citizens, and no special privileges for any citizens, is still going to be a long and bumpy road.
