The ‘True Believers’: for faith or cause? : Comments

By Greg Bondar, published 28/5/2019

Did the constant reference to 'True Believers' and 'Faith' by the major Leaders show that both parties have gone back to their roots with their slogan efforts this year?

To Greg Bondar.

If it's any consolation, I would say to just trust God. And with that in mind there are many directions that we can highlight for our direction from the bible. So a foundation in the bible can help anyone trying to make their way in the world while still being true to their faith.

In regards to the politics and the rhetoric, it's nothing new to hear the politicians say their cause is the right one, even to flesh out some Christian phrases to bluster the votes for them. I don't want to be always suspicious, however when politics and religion over lap my suspicions go up as well. Are they real, or just trying to get a Christian vote? In the end, all you have is your vote, and possibly a little more influence if you spend the energy to get more involved. Either way, the answer I would say is trust God. Jesus didn't start a rebellion while under hypocritical leadership from religious leaders, nor while under the influence and oppression of Roman rule. But He did say that though the religious leaders are unrighteous and hypocrites to listen to them (just don't follow their example). To the Romans, Jesus said to obey those who rule over you, turn the other cheek, and walk the extra mile. All three things pertain to the way the Romans treated them at back then. With this in mind even if someone is voted in that isn't a Christian or a devote Christian, find peace to trust God.

In regards to politics and legislation, or in beliefs as a whole. The stat of how many identify as Christian is heartwarming. Especially, when the loudest voices push against our faith and make it seem like there's no one left who's Christian. However, be careful when looking for true Christians, and true believers. Again I would say to study and hold a foundation from the bible for this part. There are parts that say that if you don't love your brothers or sisters (or brothers and sisters in Christianity) then you really aren't coming from Jesus's perspective. Jesus also when criticized with spending too much time with sinners, he replied that a doctor tends to the sick, not to those who think they are well. On the other hand the bible doesn't say to be silent in our faith or accepting of sin. Instead Jesus said if another Christian sins against you what to do. The first thing to do is to correct them about it, for their benefit. In the end though who is and isn't a real Christian is up to God. Trust Him in that as well. The book of Daniel in the Old Testament has Daniel and three others stay faithful to God while working in the government of a country that does not believe in God. We can strive to do the same regardless if the leaders and authorities in the government are Christian or not.

Hope that helps.
