If it's any consolation, I would say to just trust God. And with that in mind there are many directions that we can highlight for our direction from the bible. So a foundation in the bible can help anyone trying to make their way in the world while still being true to their faith.
In regards to the politics and the rhetoric, it's nothing new to hear the politicians say their cause is the right one, even to flesh out some Christian phrases to bluster the votes for them. I don't want to be always suspicious, however when politics and religion over lap my suspicions go up as well. Are they real, or just trying to get a Christian vote? In the end, all you have is your vote, and possibly a little more influence if you spend the energy to get more involved. Either way, the answer I would say is trust God. Jesus didn't start a rebellion while under hypocritical leadership from religious leaders, nor while under the influence and oppression of Roman rule. But He did say that though the religious leaders are unrighteous and hypocrites to listen to them (just don't follow their example). To the Romans, Jesus said to obey those who rule over you, turn the other cheek, and walk the extra mile. All three things pertain to the way the Romans treated them at back then. With this in mind even if someone is voted in that isn't a Christian or a devote Christian, find peace to trust God.
