Africa: population growth, governance, democracy : Comments

By Guy Hallowes, published 3/4/2019

The third world, and Africa in particular, needs to be persuaded that it is it in its absolute best interests to put in place measures that will help to reduce – or at least plan and control – population growth.

People in the know years ago came to the conclusion that Africa, with the exception of a couple of countries on that continent, is a lost cause. There is nothing that is said or done that will change the situation.

The greatest hope for stemming population growth is Social Security, particularly an adequate Age Pension.

Such a pension removes the need for numerous children for support in old age.

Africa will never achieve this desirable state in the foreseeable future.

Of course, we must focus on limiting runaway population growth and by employing the only remedy that has ever worked!

As opposed to control freaks pounding on pulpits and trying to make other folk's decisions for them. Even as we spectate events like the Rwandan genocide and massacres.

And over fifty million in refugee camps put there by drought displacement caused by runaway climate change!

The only tried tested and proven method of limiting population growth has only ever been achieved by improving the average incomes of the affected populations.

Rather than shiploads of pulpit-pounding of, we know best, control freak, parsimonious postulations!

Where required backed by gunboat diplomacy and going directly to NGO's with targeted aid and aid projects. so they reach the villages, rather than the coffers of tyrants and genocidal butchers.

And should be selectively targeted at those nations that have embraced constitutional democracy and as gifts of energy production and potable water projects. Along with microloans at the village level that foster and encourage cottage industries and co-ops that improve the average lot in those targeted villages!

Power they can all afford is a good place to start and logically that has to be MSR thorium. Followed by deionisation dialysis desalination to produce all the AFFORDABLE potable water they also need!

Both absolute essentials to ending endemic generational poverty! The final key? Gender equality education!

Pulpit-pounding Bullies have never ever solved anything! But invariably sow the seeds of discontent and disharmony! And may well have blood on their sh!te stirring hands?

What if the reverse is the truth....http://www.wired.com/story/the-world-might-actually-run-out-of-people/

Mankind has long since learned how to arrest population growth. The problem is that those who fret about the problem don't like the answer and so continue to look for 'better' answers.

The answer? Economic growth. In every single region, country or society, economic growth has led to a decline in the birth rate and eventually a decline in the population.

So Africa doesn't need more aid or more NGO's offering 'help'. It simply needs more capitalism.

Next problem please.

Yes Mhaze, essentially correct. But at oft times the only road to capitalism is by avoiding corrupt governments that turn aid into bullets and bombs to use on their own civilian populations! Therefore, the only way to promote organic economic growth is via NGO's that distribute international aid at the village level as microloans that enable very local cottage industries, solar power and potable water projects.

Two-thirds of the homes on his planet are places that do not have washing machines. consequently, see entire female populations made into virtual laundry and water carrying slaves, with no time left for basic education and literacy.

Just fixing that much at the village level has to help, as would the distribution of free condoms!

I have the answer to their over population problem.

Pull all the White people out of Africa.
Stop sending them Aid of any description.
Allow Africa return to being the Dark Continent.

It will take 25 years but the problem will solve itself.

Too easy.
