Turkey right to be angry at ANZAC aggression : Comments

By John Williams, published 25/3/2019

The defence on the Western Front is a far more fitting memorial for our military than the aggression of ANZAC.

The Armenian Genocide comes to mind.

Turkey was on the side of murderous militarism by siding with the Kaiser. It wasn't ANZAC aggression, it was a "Police Action" to support International Law.

Good article.

Erdogan is a Trumpesque figure and highly unlikable but it does raise an interesting question.

If an Australian was entering Turkey to attend a memorial service in Gallipoli, should it be within the rights of the Turkish equivalent of Border Security to ask for facebook login details to determine if they supported rightwing extremist groups here in Australia? https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/apr/09/uk-tourists-to-us-may-get-asked-to-hand-in-passwords-or-be-denied-entry

Or perhaps decide exclude those with overtly nationalistic Australian tattoos?

Sadly Australia has now joined the ranks of countries who has managed to export a radical extremist to do harm in another country.

Turkey is obliged to allow free access to Australian cemeteries under the Treaty of Lausanne, but admitting someone with clear Islamophobic leanings should of course be their prerogative as a nation state.

Turkey has no need of that, Steelredux. Since right wing people are lot smarter than lefties, no right wing person would want to go to a Muslim country anyway.

Right wingers say. "If Islam is so great, what the hell are they doing invading our country?"

And comparing Trump to Edrogan does not wash. Edrogan seems to be in the process of making a "greater Turkey." My guess is he will invade Kurdistan to seize the oilfields. And you can bet that there will be no lefties marching through Sydney chanting "No blood for oil!"

The USA is different, it has no empire although there are many countries which would like to be a part of the USA. Puerto Rico and Guam would be two, and you could probably add Venezuela.

SR,

Once again you seem to be suffering from selective amnesia. "Sadly Australia has now joined the ranks of countries who has managed to export a radical extremist to do harm in another country."

You sadly forget the 100s of muslims travelling to Syria to behead the non believers?
