As the quotation marks indicate, “Palestine” does not exist. There is no such place. Shorten's threat to have Australia 'recognise’ the non existent shows that he is too dumb to be Prime Minister. However, there are many dummies who will vote for him, so he probably will have the satisfaction of recognising …. well …. nothing. There is no chance that he will follow the only Western leader with a pair, Donald Trump, and remove our contribution to the really dumb and dangerous UN, which has already committed the stupid act of recognising a loose bunch of terrorists who were kicked out from elsewhere in the Middle East.

With "Palestine", is that Hamas-Palestine or Fatah-Palestine? They hate each other.

Until they can get their act together, it is pointless thing to try to negotiate.

Isreal has a 6,000 year Jewish history in the land. Palestine / Islam has a patchy 100 year history.
