Eyes without the prize: stripping Aung San Suu Kyi's awards : Comments

By Binoy Kampmark, published 11/12/2018

To not speak is tantamount to the gravest of sins in the epoch of emoting, where the decibel range of outrage is taken as a measure of an activist's worth.

It must be a big blow to arrogant people who consider themselves arbiters of ‘good’ and 'bad’ to find out that their heros are just like everyone else. They make themselves look even bigger clowns when they withdraw their ridiculous rewards. Aung San Suu Kyi will be just the same person she always was - without the sycophantic, childish awards. Freedom of some bumhole city, for heaven's sake! Anyone with a passport and visa has the same rights; “peace bureaucrats and the cocktail set” beautifully describes the pathetic creatures handing out ridiculous awards nobody asked for. Who would want to be compared with a convicted terrorist like Nelson Mandela and the worst US president ever, Obama?

You try living under virtual house arrest for a couple of decades mate and see how robust your resolve remains.

Your condemnation is noted.

However, if the oppressed minority, were both white and Christian and had precipitated their own persecution by terrorist attacks against poorly manned police posts and other such soft targets, would your condemnation be as robust?

The oppressed minority were stateless descendants of squatters, who migrated illegally to establish illegal camps as their method of first infiltrating another people's land and culture, then as they did in places such as Indonesia swamp the local culture to become the loud and aggressive sabre rattling majority.

They are now, resettled across the border and among their own ethnic relatives and culture. I would say, this is the best possible outcome, for two cultures who demonstrably, cannot, will not peacefully cohabitate.

With the generational interlopers now back in the ancient homeland/land of their forefathers, a better outcome than the slaughter that would have ensued had not they been forced to flee by the precipitous actions of their own armed and dangerous, brethren.

I believe, under all those aforementioned circumstances! The serially critiqued Lady has won a best an outcome for these folk as she could or was allowed!

Simply put, she is little more than a puppet held hostage by a cliche of governing from behind, Generals. I get that you think the outcome for a community of illegal settlers occupying illegal settlements was a disaster. However, they are just a few in a saga that now sees over 50 million displaced persons, eking out an existence in various refugee camps around the world.

Time for Suu Kyi to be issued with an Ig Nobel Prize for Peace.

That is her leadership of the violent government of Myanmar

has given a whole bad meaning to the word "Peace".

This follows the spirit of Edward Teller, an inventer of the H-Bomb,

being issued with the 1991 Ig Nobel for Peace, for

"his efforts to change the meaning of peace as we know it."

Cont. Across the world, north of 50 million displaced persons now condemned to live out a substandard existence in hell hole refugee camps. To the point where in comparison or refugee camps on Nauru/Manis Island look like tropical paradise in comparison!

There are oppressed minorities around the globe as there have been for centuries! Gypsies, Jews, homosexuals, Celts in their own homelands, etc-etc. Return often rendered an impossibility these days, by climate change drought/expanding desertification!

This is where humanity, the real Authenticated manifestation, gets a look in?

With the ongoing rollout as deliberate first-order priority, of MSR thorium coupled to, this cheapest, safest, most reliable, endlessly sustainable power source, to space-age deionisation dialysis desalination.

Use those two strategically rolled out amenities/power in the poorest hands, along with copious potable water in sufficient quantities to revegetate arid desert landscapes. With those areas, able to both grow food and livestock, put people who want a brand new start in a land once thought to be completely worthless/uninhabitable!

The new frontier for millions of displaced persons, enabled to not just sustain a hand to mouth existence, but well enough resourced with power/water to create endlessly sustainable surpluses.

Which could be bartered or sold in return for sewing machines, washing machines, so on and so forth.

With those changes, nighttime lighting and laptops, educate the next and coming generations. To in effect, end the enslavement of half the world. Enslavement that sees the women and girls in some communities treated little better than goods or chattels and consentless incubators.

What I'm proposing is not too difficult. but will nee a real Leader like JF Kennedy to emerge and just get it started, because it can and should be self-sustaining change once several examples are off the drawing board and altering the lives of hundreds of thousands, that like many trickles of improvement becomes a river that sees millions lifted from penury and ever generational, unmet need.

Believe me, when I say, this is not and never ever was a case of can't! But rather one of, we bloody well will not!
