Queensland abortion legislation fails pro-choice and pro-life nurses : Comments

By Graeme Haycroft, published 16/10/2018

It is probable that half of all of all nurses hold conscientious objections to abortion. These nurses face very real potential discriminations under this legislation.

An anti-abortion activist arguing a case based almost exclusively on assumptions that rely on unproven assertions. And then goes on to predict marginally possible outcomes that rely on those assumptions becoming our actual reality. And a very long bow. Can't add much save it remains the woman's choice whether or not she goes full term.

Some ladies have done so even though the child was the result of rape or incest and all too often resulted in the complete ruination of their career prospects and condemned them to a lifetime of living below the poverty line and then ending their days as homeless women living in the streets?

Given it's all too often the case for sacrificing single unmarried females who allow medieval and unproven philosophies to CONTROL their freedom to choose. And already traumatic enough without some bearded control freak? Who will never ever have to stand in those shoes, trying to impose his will on a topic he will never ever have to experience!

Timely change and nobody who is a conscientious objector is ever going to be forced to participate in any procedure that conflicts with their belief system even one brainwashed into them from birth!

"But how is this cohort of conscientious objectors going to be accommodated and not discriminated against in rostering arrangements? How are these nurses going to be identified? Will they have to declare their objection when they apply for a job?"

I think the simple answer is a new classification of nurse, an 'abortion nurse' if you will, and pay them more for doing that job.

That way an 'anti-abortion nurse' would simply be not trained or qualified (so to speak) to take part in that procedure in the first place, and you'd have to make sure you had 'abortion nurses' rostered on in order to do these procedures.
Problem solved.

Al.

Have you ever considered the distinct possibility you are wrong?

Smart thinking.

To look at the broader picture, a Universal Basic Income (or Negative Income Tax) is the way to ensure that nobody will be forced onto jobs that go counter to their conscience.
