Cultural appropriation, you just can’t be too careful : Comments
By Russell Grenning, published 19/7/2018They are working hard on creating on three pieces of international law that would, if implemented, expand intellectual property regulations to protect things like indigenous designs, dances, words and traditional medicines.

There is no reason why Westerners would want to appropriate any culture obviously inferior to their in.

So what!
Russell obviously enjoys skewering the inevitable almost unlimited foibles of those on the left/liberal/progressive end of the culture wars shouting match. But really these foibles are quite harmless when you compare them to the toxic foibles promoted by the site introduced here: http://www.conservapedia.com/Main_Page http://www.conservapedia.com/Conservative_Bible_Project Hopefully, apart from runner hardly anyone who visits this Online Opinion forum would in any way subscribe to the benighted even toxic nonsense promoted by the above site. Dear Ttbn,
«There is no reason why Westerners would want to appropriate any culture obviously inferior to their in.» I understand, but what about those cultures that are superior to the Western, if not across the board then at least in some aspects? Posted by Yuyutsu, Friday, 20 July 2018 3:30:40 PM

Well Yuyutsu, I think this whole nonsense proves that there are no
cultures that are superior to ours. This cultural nonsense has been rumbling away for sometime. It is a typical lefty brain snap and if all those other cultures are so fragile that they need this, then that proves my point. When I see everyone that is not of western civilisation throwing out their western suits, walking instead of using western invented cars, throwing out their TV sets, and we throw out paper because the Chinese invented it, the Maori start wearing grass skirts & stop playing Rugby then I will take the whole as other than a great laugh and as sensible as Islam. Oh thats a good point, when will the Saudi government stop providing government employees with Mercedes and Issue camels ? Ha Ha Posted by Bazz, Friday, 20 July 2018 3:55:35 PM

Cultural appropriation is the next identity issue for the social justice warriors. Essentially, they want to prevent white people from using anything from any other culture.
For example, these Fwits wanted to ban non-Mexicans from wearing a sombrero. So far from trying to integrate cultures and people, they are trying to resurrect apartheid. Posted by Shadow Minister, Sunday, 22 July 2018 2:09:33 PM

The American and Western culture has been appropriated all over the world
even African villagers, have recycled mobile phones. Cars which were invented by Ford are driven in countries all over the world. Better turn all the Lights off in non western countries because Edison invented the light bulb. Watt, the steam engine. Trains,Television, China appropriated tonnes of ideas off the Western internet and turned them into Designs and goods to sell in their shops. Cultural appropriation by white people? Well, there’s a lot of tarnished kettles calling the white Pot, black here. Posted by CHERFUL, Monday, 23 July 2018 10:57:26 PM

I always wonder what is being referred to when stagnant stone age cultures are described as "rich & diverse".

I seem to remember that the secret women's business at Hindmarsh bridge was an invention of the the lefties. It seems that they have no problems owning cultural lies.

Progress is a natural phenomenon & culture is also developing as time goes on. Some so-called cultures though seem to have levelled out a long time ago. For example, the inexplicable & fascinating rock painings from 20,000 plus years ago appeared to have been stopped with no newer ones to be seen as yet. Some places show buildings & carvings of impecable skil whereas other areas have rather crude & child-like paintings. Why is it that there are no newer examples ? Just look at Papua New Guinea where they have massive gatherings with highly colourful displays whereas in Australia there is dancing. The mayans, Inkas, Egyptians, Asians all have buildings & carvings from the distant past. perhaps one day some such remnants will be found here too, posing the question which people have created them. I find it fascinating.

Individual, maybe they switched to better paintings etc but on more
materials that just do not last as long. How many paintings of Dutch masters have been lost to war and fire ? Posted by Bazz, Wednesday, 25 July 2018 11:50:34 AM
