China is opening its economy to imports and foreign ownership - but why? : Comments

By Zegang Ren, published 10/5/2018

China's government wants its people to spend their money and invest inside China, rather than foreign countries. That's why it's going to lower tariffs and liberalize foreign ownership rules.

I don't believe that China would find many countries “who share their vision for the world”, apart from North Korea. I note that the “initiatives” don't include foreigners buying up slabs of China or inviting the same sorts of threats and insults that China sprays at the rest of the world.

China imports what it has to import. What's the big deal there? And it expects countries like Australia to be 'grateful’ and 'more respectful’.

“The Chinese government is actually anxious, and unhappy, about the huge amounts of money Chinese tourists spend abroad”. All tourists spend money abroad when the are abroad. Duh!.

Ren Zegang is a propagandist for China. He sounds suspiciously like a good many of the Chinese nationals planted in Australia to push China. Soft aggression, or something of the sort. Just reeling off what China is doing is not much use to us.

China is better at playing the long game than we here in the west. And doesn't share our alleged Christian values, which seem to become expedient whenever there's a political imperative. Moreover, not confounded by ever-changing governments with different and competing priorities! One doesn't know what motivates Tyrants or why their populations believe or accept their particular rational or rule. China was once a great empire and like former great empires led by dictatorial autocrats, seems to believe it can be great again and dominate the world far beyond traditional borders? One cannot understand what motivates the need to expand and massively build up their military or international influence and control? And why we here in the west are not bothered by that or the probable endgame that sees many other nations join Tibet as a Chinese possession? Alan B.
