The key question now is, what are the criteria for something to be identified as being intelligent?

Free will? I didn't know will (Bill) was a captive?

Levity aside, the only thing, we have free will/absolute control
over, is the thoughts we care to entertain inside our own individual cerebral cortex. And through them our attitudes; subsequent actions or lack thereof!

GREAT POWER THERE!

20 years.
China and India are both investing heavily in liquid salt reactors. . If all goes well, they should have operational plants in less than two decades. Time is relative and Einstein brings power from the mind into cyber space and off the planet.

«People are free agents and this provides evidence that they are made up of two substances – one physical and one non-physical»

Why would people be different than any other object, including machines? If anything is "just a machine", then humans too are "just a machine".

You perceive a difference because you happen to experience the thinking processes that occur inside this particular brain of one particular human, which you sometimes mistakenly call "you". Given that you do not even remember experiencing similar thinking processes that occur in other human brains, what basis have you for claiming that all humans are distinct from all non-humans?

Matter is matter. There are no physical and non-physical matters. There is, however, matter that is more grossly manifested (of solidified) and other matter which remains subtler without gross manifestation.

Sages tell us that energy (which they called "water") is a relatively gross manifestation of thought (which they called "fire"), then matter (which they called "earth") is a gross manifestation of energy. In turn, thought itself is a manifestation of something even subtler (which they called "air"), perhaps we can call it "intelligence". Modern science has already covered the first step by discovering that all of the grossest matter, is in fact a manifestation of energy (E=mc^2) - and science is yet to discover that energy itself is a manifestation of something even subtler.

As for yourself, you are neither of the above: you are not a gross physical body, you are not the energy in that body, you are not the thoughts in that body and you are not intelligence: thinking happens, it's a subtle natural phenomena, but you are not the thinker.
