There would be no glorious immolation, no sacrifice to the sacred text of constitutional law.

Noone is a "victim" of Sect 44. And how could these buffoons "misread" or "misconstrue" the section?

Joyce and others are victims of their own slack ignorance and stupidity. We Australians are the victims of below-par politicians.

"the same politician who made world headlines threatening to place the undeclared dogs of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard on death row after entering Australia"

That incident did excite the chattering classes who always genuflect to anything foreign. Of course quarantine should not apply to 'their' dogs. (sic) Arrogant cheats who threatened Australia's biosecurity measures. But regarded by frivolous 'Progressive' (Regressive) elements as somehow wronged by the responsible Minister

For me, that was it as far as this article was concerned.

Remember the reason almost all countries prohibit their Federal politicians from having citizenship of a foreign country is to try and minimise the likelihood of them acting in the interests of governments and/or corporations from abroad rather than that of their own citizens. However, in Australia could be argued that some senior politicians who definitely were not dual citizenship have been offenders more than those who have discovered that they technically could also be regarded as citizens of another country after coming to office.

Seems to me that much of the trouble in the Middle East especially is because in the USA, members of Congress are presently also can be citizens of Israel and at least 29 are. Far more in proportion than the order of 2% of the US population identified as Jews. Also note some Jews, including the religious Orthodox Neturei Karta actively oppose the existence of a Jewish State. Problem is those with Zionist philosophies which also includes non religious Jews and non Jews. Then most other politicians grovel to the Israel lobby to varying extents to avoid having well funded campaigns against themselves.

Result is lots of glaring examples of the US government looking after Israel than its own people. Including being manipulated into fighting wars largely on behalf of Israel cajouling others to fight battles on their behalf. Is very important to realise that some Jews will do dirty things to others who have helped them and thought they were friends if thinking it is to their own advantage and can get away with it. The USS Liberty incident of 1867 now being widely exposed is a classic example. I have seen small scale examples first hand. Including a despicable "backstabbing" attempt by a Jewish woman which fortunately did not succeed and was discovered.

Hopefully the question of politicians with dual citizenship can draw attention to the real issue prohibiting it is designed to avoid. Needs far more scrutiny of our politicians when they may be acting in the interests of foreign governmants and corporations rather than our own, Especially those of the USA.

Here is an interesting legal situation.

Someone is convicted of a crime or breaking the law.

Lawyer goes back to when the law was enacted and finds that some of the people involved in making that law were not eligible to do so, what happens then?

' "the same politician who made world headlines threatening to place the undeclared dogs of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard on death row after entering Australia"'

this was more about the leftist media defending and protecting someone who thought he was above the law. They did not give nearly as much attention to Jonny Depp's domestic violence. Like the left Binoy is usually about sides not facts.

Spot on.

If you have a foreign born parent or even grandparent, it is incumbent upon you to check that you aren't a citizen by descent before running for federal parliament. Most people will know or at least be able to make the appropriate inquiries as to whether they hold the citizenship of another country.

These people want to be lawmakers at the highest level but they apparently don't even have the nous to work out which citizenships they hold. Astounding.

Australia deserves better.
