How do we get Australian men to be healthier? : Comments

By Peter West, published 7/8/2017

'Australian Ninja Warrior' was a great success, by all accounts. It rated its socks off. And maybe it encouraged males to get out and exercise.

It is all so simple really.

Just teach the ladies to run faster, away that is, & the men will get healthier chasing them.

Those who don't get faster will not be able to pass their slow genes on to the next generation.

Men are sometimes expected to "soldier on" in times of stress. It might make more sense to allow them time to recover from stressful events like the death of a loved one, marital bust-ups, divorce, and severe illness. Men would be stronger for it. It makes no sense to expect too much from people, as this guy argues. And Asians might indeed do better than Caucasians:

What business of yours is it whether men are healthier or otherwise?

Ah, Gotcha: the author is a doctor, belonging to the AMA Mafia, who is trying to sell us his snake-oil!

Two bits of advice; keep interested, and keep out of the lounge chair.

Indeed. Well said, DD.

We must stay jumping around, walking, swimming and so on or we all start rusting to death

**We must stay jumping around, walking, swimming and so on or we all start rusting to death**

True…but what I observe, beginning in childhood, is an absence of adventure in the life of boy children.

Maybe me thinks, this longing for adventure is the hidden reason boy children in particular, are so engrossed in computer games.

The sadness of this phenomena is, computer games accomodate the mind, but divorce the body from the process.
I see that the fear of adverse effects on the mind of children, in their excessive involvement with computer games, misses this point of divorce of mind and body.

Boys need desperately to be a “hero”… we old plonkers were indeed the lucky generation in this regard; no computer games!
