Unless we are slaves, we should be free to offer our time to do odd jobs and to offer our goods for sale.

Yes, businesses that make a turnover of less than $75,000 per year are exempt from GST. I'm one of them.

Those over that limit surely have the resources to hire professionals to navigate the tax and regulation map. I myself use professionals to help me with my yearly returns, but it's my choice, because I need to know that I am doing the right thing and because I'd rather spend my time doing what earns me income rather than what earns the government income.

It really depends on whether, politically, you believe in taxation and regulation as a community safeguard - or don't. Leftists versus rightists.

'Let us look at the bright side: at least we are not in Venezuela!'

Ah, c'mon! Can't you recognise an out-and-out CIA regime-change propaganda scenario when you see it, after umpteen precedents that have left otherwise functioning countries in ruins?

About 90% of what we are being told about Venezuela is fanatical regime-change garbage.

Dear Killarney,

«It really depends on whether, politically, you believe in taxation and regulation as a community safeguard - or don't. Leftists versus rightists.»

I do not identify with any of those - I believe in voluntary societies.

So long as membership in a society is involuntary, such society has no right to exist, how less so to tax and regulate.
But if a society only includes willing members, then I don't see why it could not tax and regulate, assuming that's what the members agreed to.

«Can't you recognise an out-and-out CIA regime-change propaganda»

Well, I must be blind then. All I know is that when I insert a DVD, I keep the screen off for a minute or so because I'm not willing to let the CIA into my home, or is it the FBI? it's all the same... I buy religious DVD's from India and into Australia - how did the Americans get in between, how dare they?
