By Alon Ben-Meir, published 7/6/2017

This week the Israeli occupation of the West Bank has reached the milestone of 50 years that will be recalled in shame.

I don't know, Alon,

: if hostile neighbouring countries amass armies on one's borders, the sensible thing would be to get in quick, launch very strong, lightning raids, wipe out their air forces and drive those armies back.

Signs of imminent aggression - and I do recall those times - provide an internationally-recognised reason to strike first. Israel's response to imminent annihilation - and isn't that what it would have been ? - was completely legitimate. In law, they could have driven on to Amman and Cairo and Damascus, disarmed those cities, destroyed their aggressive military equipment, and then retired.

The bottom line in all this is: do Jews have the right to live in Israel/Palestine in peace ? Until the Arabs answer "Yes", then they don't have a moral leg to stand on.

Whereas the Muslim intention of wiping Isreal off the map is 'moral'?

Fifty years of agreements and accords made, then rent asunder. With neither side blameless!

Fifty years or encroaching illegal settlements, all that allows the gerrymander that keeps the current government in power!

What more is there to add, save the rivers of blood that have flowed entirely without necessity or merit during most of that period!

Round and round it goes, where it ends nobody knows?
Monumental megalithic tragedy endlessly repeated perhaps?

Try thorium dear Sara, try thorium dear Sara, try thorium! Then couple it to space age deionisation desalination, dear Sara, and make sure hubby takes note and follows through!

«I call on every man and woman of conscience to bring the madness of this debilitating conflict to an end.»

Sorry, we cannot.

Israel was found on socialism and Judaism: both have failed in their mission to be a light unto the nations.

My question for you, Alon, is how longer will you still identify with those people?
When does enough become enough?
When do you finally tell them: "YOU NO LONGER DESERVE TO BE MY PEOPLE"?

Tear your shirt, sit on the floor for seven days and mourn, then go about your own life without them!

Dear Joe,

Indeed, the Arabs have no moral leg to stand on -
But that doesn't mean that Israel must shoot its own moral leg!

Yuyutsu,

Israel was built also on the sheer terror of what could happen again, and the grim, lifelong determination that it doesn't. Quite understandable.

So what's the death toll this year, Palestinians and Israelis ? How does that compare to Yemeni or Syrians ? Yazidis killed by ISIS? Nigerians killed by Boko Haram, which I believe is a term in Arabic meaning "Down with Education" (the Left must love that one)? Somalis and Kenyans killed by al-Shabaab ?

Moral legs ? Do you mean that, if a Palestinian run his car into Israeli pedestrians, or runs into a bar stabbing people at random, it is somehow moral for him to do that, to kill random innocents, but that it is therefore immoral to shoot the bastard ?

Mind you, it must be hard to run into a bar, or old people's home, or pre-school, if you've lost both your moral legs :)

Dear Joe,

The death toll this year have been pretty low indeed - extremely low compared with the other countries that you mentioned.

In fact, even in Israel's worst year of terrorism, in 2002, the number of fatalities was 452 and 2284 were wounded: in the same year, however, 525 Israelis were killed in road-accidents and 37679 were wounded - that was the extreme: by 2010 the number of terrorism fatalities dropped to 11 and the number of road-fatalities dropped to 352. Israeli drivers are known to be very aggressive, which can partially be attributed to the wars and occupation.

You see, the "Palestinians" only make big commotion, but they are weaklings, they cannot do much serious damage - Israel's ceremonial military brass-band can defeat them single-handedly.

This means that Israel's claims that it needs the West Bank for its security are nonsense. Had a wall been built instead over Israel's 1967 border-line, terrorism would have ceased immediately and if by any chance the "Palestinians" still attempted the slightest provocation after Israel's withdrawal, then Israel's army could be on the ground to fix the problem anywhere in the West Bank within a couple of hours (and 2 minutes by air).

«if a Palestinian run his car into Israeli pedestrians, or runs into a bar stabbing people at random, it is somehow moral for him to do that, to kill random innocents, but that it is therefore immoral to shoot the bastard ?»

Who ever suggested that? Such a Palestinian would be dead within a minute or two, but why allow them to drive a car among Israeli pedestrians or enter an Israeli bar in the first place? Build a massive wall over the border and keep the so-called "Palestinians" on the other side, that solves the problem!

Yuyutsu,

If I were in Israel, I would be somewhat concerned about where some of that $ 150 billion worth of armaments for the Saudis might end up: Israel does not exist just in a Palestine-Israel bubble, after all.

That part of the world is incredibly complicated politically, as we all know: just because Iran and its lackeys Hamas and Hezbollah, are violently opposed to Israel's existence, doesn't mean at all that the Sunnis are not even more so.

Israel faces, not just the five million Palestinians in their racist/ethnicist/religious hatred of Jews and Israel, but 1.5 billion Muslims who have been lied to and turned violently against the very existence of Jews anywhere in the world, and of Israel in particular.

If I were an Israeli, I would tell them to shove it right up there, and keep my gun handy and well-oiled.

Dear Joe,

All true - that's why Israel has nukes.

The West Bank doesn't give Israel a military advantage: on it's other end is Jordan who is at warm peace with Israel and depends on Israel for many things. Years ago, one could argue that if Israel left the WB, then the Jordanian army could return there and cause trouble, but since signing the peace agreement, this is no longer an issue.

Hi Yuyutsu,

And that's how it can be with the other Arab countries, if they abandoned their vile exterminationist ideologies.

Yes, if I were Israel, I would speak softly, work patiently to do peace deals like this one, and carry a 'big stick'.

Same old Muslim, lies by omission propaganda.

Blame everyone else except the Muslims.
Don't mention the reason Israel occupied those areas around Israel.

4 Arab states, attacked Israel 50 years ago, The six day war.

They were defeated, and Israel occupied that land around Israel originally to put a buffer
Zone
between the Palestinians and Israel. The Palestinian were always firing missiles
over at Israel and digging tunnels to get into Israel.
Because the corrupt Palestinian leaders couldn't run the country making their
people miserable and desperate. But the Jews were spectacularly successful in building prosperity and a beautiful clean well run state.
The Palestinians think they should have the right to overrun Israel and take all the prosperity over there.
The Arabs in the earlier days, when Israel let Palestinians come and go freely in,Israel, true to form, blew up a bus full,of Israelie school children.
