Thank you Warwick for this reminder of an amazing man.
For my own part, and looking back as an ex-soldier,
I am much taken with this comment: "…War is nothing short of insensitive folly.
It is inconclusive in its results and devastating in its ultimate consequences."
Lest we forget - indeed !

Much is made of Australias inolvement with other wars in other countires wars, even revered would not be over stating it. Recent war glorification shows on TV have described these wars as "Australias" war.

Absolute crap, these are nothing less the Australia being lapdogs for the US imperialism.

What was it George W Bush said on 911? other countries are either with us or against is what he said wasn't it?

Paul Wolfowitz, the neoconservative who was Deputy Secretary of Defense under the Bush regime, declared:

“Our first objective is to prevent the re-emergence of a new rival, either on the territory of the former Soviet Union or elsewhere, that poses a threat on the order of that posed formerly by the Soviet Union.

This is a dominant consideration underlying the new regional defense strategy and requires that we endeavor to prevent any hostile power from dominating a region whose resources would, under consolidated control, be sufficient to generate global power.” - Paul Craig Roberts.

Some of the words used there could be left out. No body wants to glorify anything, if that is the impression you got, that is your choice.
Are you against having involvement with the us. That can be seen as your opinion only.
World affairs need to be seen to. And soldiers need to be practised, that is what they are there for.
So use the language properly, and remember you are stating your opinion.
