UN needs to confront IS and Al-Nusra : Comments

By David Singer, published 11/10/2016

Both terrorist organisations have been the subject of many unanimous Security Council resolutions declaring them to be a threat to world peace and security – but all such resolutions have stopped short of authorising military action.

There is no prospect of the Security Council authorising military action against Islamic State and al-Nusra. Perhaps slightly less hopeless is persuading the US and allies to stop funding and arming them.

The UN will move against Isis and others in Syria when Israeli stops the IDF and Settlers from murdering Palestinians, stealing land, water and instituting Apartheid.
And stops the US and UK and other western country's arming the Israeli Govt and investigates war crimes by the IDF settlers and other Israeli security organizations

Saying "never" is dangerous.

You may remember back in 2013 when Obama was blaming Assad and Putin was blaming the US backed rebels in Syria for the shocking sarin gas attack that claimed more than 1400 lives - including 425 children.

I argued then that Obama had lost sight of the real problem - the proliferation of chemical weapons in Syria and the need to get rid of those weapons first with the backing of a UN Security Resoultion.

You can read my article published on OLO at the following link:
http://www.onlineopinion.com.au/view.asp?article=15451&page=1

Guess what - that is precisely what happened. Bush and Putin held hands and went to the Security Council which three weeks later passed Resolution 2118 by a vote of 15-0.

We have a very similar position again with Russia wanting to fight ISIS first whilst Obama blames Putin for breaking the ceasefire and Russia similaly blames America.

Obama wanting to get rid of Assad and breakdown Russia's support for Assad is obviously blinded to what needs to be given priority to end the conflict in Syria.

Obama needs to wake up before he retires and get to the Security Council with Putin to co-sponsor a resolution to take military action against ISIS.

Obama's legacy will be a sorry one if he turns down Russia's offer.

Your comment is yet another perfect example of your obsessive hatred of Jews - making wild and unsubstantiated claims smearing and denigrating Israel that bear no relationship to the matters dealt with in my article.

A poor reflection on your care and concern for Syria that has seen S00000 people so far killed and more than 8 million internally or externally displaced in the last 5 years.

Yes military action is what's required and doable if NATO's largest standing army, Turkey supplied it as Muslim boots on the ground!

Even if that required a genuine peace treaty with the (my enemy's enemy is also my friend) Kurd, who could then become the experienced spearhead that puts paid to both terrorist organisations!?

Unfortunately, only doable if the current Turkish tyrant is overthrown and replaced by a genuine liberal democrat, chosen by the people!

And on track, but for the confected stage managed end of the former peace treaty; and Kurdish autonomy!

And all that allowed the Turkish tyrant to entrench his virtual dictator's position!?

It seems you really can fool all of the people some of the time!

David. I’m afraid Obama’s record cannot support any such wishful thinking. And H. Clinton threatens to step up the proxy war against Russia with a no fly zone in Syria. Russia has moved in advanced missile systems capable of shooting down American planes; and catastrophic consequences would follow.
Alan B. Hiliary also promises to arm the Peshmerga- imagine Turkey’s response.

Even the Syrian citizens who oppose Assad say this:

"We don't believe in killing Syria to improve Syria."

The war is motivated by foreign interests.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion but it helps to be informed.

In the present situation, seems to me the Russians would now regard authorisation of the UN security Council of action against Islamic State and Al Nusra like throwing petrol on a fire they are helping to fight. US presence is illegal under international law without permission from the Syrian government or UN Security Council. It has lately been exposed in numerous ways that the main aim of the US has been to covertly support numerous nominally Muslim terrorist groups to try and overthrow the most democratic and secular government in the Middle East and replace it with their own puppets and stooges. Especially so building a pipeline taking Qatari gas across Syria to Turkey can go ahead, reducing the Russian gas share in the European market. Also, Zionists would like to see Syria split into small Muslim states fighting each other rather that posing a threat to the Jewish state and in the long term help faciltate picking them off to create an enlarged "Grester Israel".
The US is now desperately trying to find excuses to slow the defeat of fighters it has spent billions of dollars sponsoring.

Guess all your posts confirm why the UN needs to take control of defeating Islamic State and al Nusra.

The competing interests of those presently involved makes unified action under a centralised command absolutely essential if a bloodbath of massive proportions is to be avoided.

America and Russia need to get to the Security Council before that option is overtaken. Two years of wasting time in failing to do so is going to have horrible consequences that will make the last two unthinkable years seem like a gentle calm before the storm.
