Interesting how the LNP says it appears to be moving to the "centre".
"The hard right is, according to some accounts, the largest faction of the NSW Liberal Party; it is the spiritual homeland of Tony Abbott; and it is the philosophical foundation of the Sydney University Conservative Club, a member of which once admitted to sympathies with fascist philosophy, in particular the belief that the poor and the rich have their ordained, natural positions in society." From: http://honisoit.com/2013/08/smasing-the-fash-fascism-in-australia/ For many years you could read on both the Liberal and Young Liberal web sites about the connection of Wilfred Kent Hughes and his fascination with socialism and fascism. Any such references are now obliterated. "In 1933, the Melbourne Herald ran a series of articles titled “Why I have become a fascist” by Wilfrid Kent Hughes, a Victorian MP. Kent Hughes came from a well connected Melbourne family. He had been school captain at Melbourne Grammar and a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford. He went on to become deputy premier of Victoria. In the 1950s he was a minister in Menzies’ federal Liberal government." Menzies, Australia’s longest serving prime minister, was glowing in his praise of Nazi Germany. In 1938, when federal attorney general, he visited the country and enthused about the “really spiritual quality in the willingness of Germans to devote themselves to the service and well being of the state”. From: redflag.org.au/article/secret-history-fascism-australia The greatest challenges to both Labor and Liberal today, lies in convincing the electorate that their policies are distinct or different from each other. LNP = Lying Nazi Parasites...ALP = Another Liberal Party. Those Rhodes Scholars...they seem to have a penchant for the extremist views deep down don't they? The anti-honesty element disable opposition by their prostitution of language, eloquently described by George Orwell as Newspeak.
The very term "conservative" has been hijacked as a political tool which is the very opposite to its real meaning. The Abbott metastases in the LNP describe themselves, and are mistakenly described by others, as "conservatives". A true conservative will seek to conserve the natural, built and social environment in which we are embedded, and resist its degradation. The LEAST conservative pollies in the Australian parliament are Tony Abbott's metastases in the LNP, and perhaps the worst even of those is the slimeball Kevin Andrews of Haneef infamy and the gross interference in the democratic and humane decisions of the government of the Northern Territory. EJ,
Just as the term progressive has been hijacked by socialists trying to drag the country back to the 60s. Posted by Shadow Minister, Monday, 26 September 2016 1:54:15 PM

I loved Albie Menton's reminder of the fine structure of our history which has been too readily forgotten. I specially liked his LNP = Lying Nazi Party and ALP = Another Liberal Party. May I suggest a slight modification of LNP to Lying Nasty Party? My recollections (not personal, thankfully) of how the Nazis really behaved make me hesitant to see the Libs as Nazis even though they share many of the elements of the Nazi Party including the monstrous crime of military aggression against Iraq which parallels the Nazi aggression against Poland followed by most of the rest of Europe and the USSR which got the top Nazis' necks justly stretched and Germany forcibly denazified.

Muslim ban Total Labor LNP Greens
Total support ,49% ,40% ,60% ,34%
Total oppose ,40% ,48% ,31% ,59%
Clearly significantly more Australians (incl 34% greens) want Muslim immigration stopped. Hanson in her views represents far more than a tiny right wing minority. Angela Merkel is finding this out the hard way too.
After all the attacks, Muslims, rightly or wrongly are perceived as a threat, and all the silly stunts by the greens is not going to blunt the clear message sent by voters.
