By Mal Fletcher, published 28/6/2016

Studies show that in normally Europhile nations like Denmark, France and to a slightly lesser degree Germany and Sweden, unusually high proportions of populations are dissatisfied.

It's all very well to bag and blame Europe for perceived ills, seems to be the conservative line of both left and right (especially in older voting demographics), but this does not abrogate the need for leadership amongst British conservatives.

Meanwhile it deflects attention from the primary issue, Britain's former conservative leadership on the EU/referendum had no policy or plans for Brexit, now trying to organise leadership and like EU is asking, when is the Article 50 going to be activated, that's what the UK wants isn't it?

EU is implying that UK media and politicans has been demonising and dog whistling on identity, race, govt. and Europe for decades, so don't expect an easy ride.... who ever the PM will be, they will need strong knee pads for begging EU states not to hurt too much....

As an Irish friend said, Britain, or more the case declining little England and its elites, are delusional, and seem more than happy to be led on by anglo nativists in media, politics and academia.....

One lesson conservatives can draw from this self inflicted chaos, be very careful about being led to committing to random targets on NOM, immigration etc., and referenda, i.e. led or pushed down a cul de sac where you become 'wedged'.

'Margaret Thatcher (quoting Clement Attlee approvingly) once referred to referendums as ‘a device for dictators and demagogues’. They reduce complicated issues down to simplistic ‘yes/no’ questions. They allow elected representatives to abrogate responsibility. They weaken the constitutional protection of minorities and can lead to a ‘tyranny of the majority’.'

Time for conservatives to get a spine and start acting like leaders vs fearful followers.....

What do you think is going to be with property markets in the UK and the EU? I believe in the slight fall of prices in England and Spain. Spain will suffer a wane of demand for real estate from British buyers who were extremely active in this market. And in London the weak pound will play its part to attract new foreign investors (according to brokers' forecasts https://tranio.com/united-kingdom/news/real-estate-markets-could-wobble-as-uk-votes-to-leave-the-eu_5152/, pay attention to the most interesting part "the real estate market in Britain may benefit from heightened foreign interest")
