The real reason Ward was singled out was because conservatives/rightists decided to do to leftists what they had been doing to conservatives/rightists for years. It has very little to do with universities being a supposed 'business institution'. Remember Barry Spurr? There are a number of other non-leftist academics that have been hounded and/or fired from their university positions because of not holding the orthodox leftist view on things. Ward simply received in return what she and her fellow leftists dealt out for years. Where were you, Mr Kampmark, when Spurr was being hounded? Cheering from the sidelines I bet. You reap what you sow.

Yep reason and logic by grooming and sexualising kids Alan B. You demostrate no reasoning or logic but a willingness to go along with such putrifying the minds of kids who should be out in the playground instead of being indoctrinated with this garbage. Certainly the modern university does need reforming and purging of the Marxist who are anti intellectual, quite often violent and show no free thought other than pushing their perverse ideas.

If a university is a place which encourages a free flow of knowledge and following an idea wherever it may lead it should get rid of business and divinity schools.

That's a new low for even the repetitive writer of repulsive risible rhetorical rubbish Runner; and rejected and repudiated rigorously!
I bet you wouldn't be game to say that to my face or step out from behind that nomenclature, and repeat your vile kiddy fiddler accusation!? And demonstrates just how low some folks will go to simply gag intelligent fair-minded debate, or freedom of speech!? Simply put the most valuable opinion that supports real progress is the one that is the opposite and disagrees with yours! Look, if the master and his servant agree on most things, then one is clearly redundant! Alan B. Posted by Alan B., Wednesday, 15 June 2016 2:28:29 PM

I agree that La Trobe’s attempts to discipline Ward were disgraceful, and I’m glad they were forced to retract. I don’t see the fault lying in universities’ managerialism, though. This is part of a cultural shift against free speech that seems to me to be driven mainly from the political left, though both edges of the political spectrum practice it. Whether it’s universities and student bodies providing “no platform” to speakers they disagreed with, Jake Lynch and his mob shouting down lecturers, or the prosecution of Andrew Bolt, free speech is being rapidly eroded. I disagree vehemently with Ward’s politics, but she has every right to express them.

architect of Canadian 'safe schools' convicted of child porn.
http://unsafeschools.org/canadian-safe-schools-architect-convicted-of-child-porn/ 'And demonstrates just how low some folks will go to simply gag intelligent fair-minded debate, or freedom of speech!?' shows how blind people like Alan B are to the obvious. The only low is your defense of the indefensible. Posted by runner, Wednesday, 15 June 2016 4:51:54 PM

Benjamin Levin’s mugshot. In July 2013, Levin was arrested and charged on several counts, including counselling a ‘mother’ (who was really an undercover police officer) to rape her child, creating child pornography, and possessing child pornography. In 2015 he pled guilty to these charges, and was sentenced to three years prison. It was revealed that Levin had sent sickening images to undercover police, including “an image of a bound girl, with a gag in her mouth and an adult woman standing over her” which was accompanied with the message “Mmm, so hot to imagine a mother doing that to her girl to please her lover.” He had also informed undercover officers that he and his wife had been sexually active with their daughters.' very funny Cobber. I am glad you think its so funny. I am sure the average parent agrees with you Posted by runner, Wednesday, 15 June 2016 6:35:35 PM

The issue here was not the Safe Schools program, but the fact that a workplace like the University tried to suspend one of it's employees for a rather truthful statement on the racist Australian flag she made on her own private Facebook page. This page had nothing to do with the University.
Freedom of speech that is not against the law should be protected, even if not everyone agrees with it. Obviously the legal fraternity agreed that the University was unlawful in their actions, because the lawsuit that was threatened was real enough to make the Uni withdraw Ward's suspension. I consider her a brave woman that has stood by her campaign to stop bullying of LBGT students in schools, despite the nasty bullying comments from several very homophobic groups in our society. Good on her. Posted by Suseonline, Thursday, 16 June 2016 1:42:12 AM

People just don't grasp the menace people like Brandis pose. The IPA agenda filters down to its adherents in positions of power, like Deans and suppression masked as free speech is becoming the norm.

Paul Walter "People just don't grasp the menace people like Brandis pose. The IPA agenda filters down to its adherents in positions of power, like Deans and suppression masked as free speech is becoming the norm."
Brandis and the IPA have almost no influence on university curricula, lecturers and tutors. The IPA and the Liberals (Brandis) are objects of critique and ridicule in universities. The real problem, as has been highlighted, is a militant left-wing that has routinely censored and marginalised opposing views. The right/conservatives have only recently decided to give the left a taste of their own medicine. Expect more of this, much more; because the right/conservatives have learnt to throw the left's tactics back in their faces: Alinsky rule 4: “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.” Posted by Aristocrat, Monday, 20 June 2016 11:17:54 AM

A long time ago and in a different place the following comment was heard, apparently?
Senator, I disagree with everything you say, but would lay down my life so you could say it.
Those who choose politics, have to understand that they and their more daft ideas will sometimes oblige them to wear sometimes ribald ridicule, and need to wear it as the price paid for extremely well rewarded public office?
Always providing it does not include profanity!
Someone, who generally only adds controversy to their extremely well funded role, drawing their salary, pensions and entitlements from the public purse ought to be prepared to personally hand them back before complaining about state funded handouts, delivered as broken record rhetoric!
And given it's hardly genuine, I believe, but just delivered to try and get back in after winning on a patent con the first time round, has to expect some lampooning?
Too precious by half politicians need to understand and particularly at election time; if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen!
Freedom of speech needs to be protected and not just in universities, or for a privileged elite!
