Kill Climate Deniers!: more on public funding of the arts : Comments

By Don Aitkin, published 20/4/2016

Either the project is thought to be politically tainted, or to be pointless, or to be something that is not relevant to Australia.

Hi Don,

You point out that .... if you want to know how something gets to be funded, it’s important to know who sat on the relevant committee. I have no idea which people came to recommend that the ACT Minister fund ‘Kill Climate Deniers!’. '

Is it just possible that this particular committee, with their characteristic lack any sense of humour or irony, took the title not just at face value but were fully approving, and approved funding for it without bothering to read the script, since they believed they could fully anticipate what was in it ?

Memo to playwrights: couch the title of your next work in emotive but clear, Gramscian terms:

* 'Never Eat a Living Thing',

* 'An End to the Agricultural Rape of the Land',

* 'Free All Rivers !'

* 'Expel all Non-Indigenous People from Australia NOW !',

* 'Putting an End to All Capitalist Investment',

* 'Love Across the Ages',

or

* 'Equal Marriage with Benefits'.

This is getting to be a bit like the situations that Shostakovich or Pasternak or Sholokhov must have been in, suit-case packed and ready beside the front door.

Thank you, by the way, for your incisive articles.

Best wishes,

Joe

The sky is falling. You say it's not. So what redress do I have?

This article starts with a completely false premise, cherry picked "data" and selectively chosen to support a confirmation bias? And wallows on waist deep in mutually incompatible assumptions, then seeks to arrive at conclusions based on that same set of highly flawed assumptions/premise?

I could say more but one does get tired of wasting time with folks with locked and bolted mindsets, who've already made up their minds long long ago; and in the face of overwhelming and mounting scientifically credible evidence to the contrary? And if you're just not looking you won't ever see it!

Warm and comfortable enough Monsieur froggy? A little more heat perhaps? Oops, so sorry! Well, not a complete disaster; poached frog legs are popular in some quarters.

Rhrosty, please. “one does get tired of wasting time with folks with locked and bolted mindsets, who've already made up their minds long long ago”.

If you stated you were talking about yourself, & Cobber the hound, that would be a reasonable statement.

I do hope the pair of you, & your mates really take to those who have conned you, when the coming cold starts to bite, & you realise you’ve been had.

Yeah, and I'm sure it'll make it to Broadway if Drumpf gets in.

If that was any other kind of minority group they would be put in jail for hate speech, but because climate deniers aren't considered politically correct, its allowed.
