In an era when conservatism seemed on the wane Buckley emerged as the centre of the conservative intellectual universe, refusing to surrender.

Good analysis, that clearly and quite massively understates the problem, while advancing no viable solution, or so much as glimmer of hope!?

Whatever happened to progressive conservatism?

You know like the future vision, big (humanistic) thinking that outlawed slavery and child labor, gave us universal emancipation and the new deal, that in turn created the longest period of Great Depression busting, sustained prosperity in our history!?

The only big thing in Trump's thinking is the self imprisoning gulag he would create for the US, if handed Presidential power? With the only good thing likely coming out of the US under him, being the road north to Canada.

Quite a showcase of American conservative names of decades past, largely forgotten.

More valuable would be a sustained commentary on the main Republican game, which is now Ted Cruz vs Trump, blow by blow.

It's "principles", not "principals" - both times. It's "Charlie Crist", not "Charlie Christ".

All this talk about presenting the appropriate “William F Buckley approved” candidate is only relevant when you have an electorate of considered, rational, decision makers.
Anyone who has read Ann Coulter’s latest book, 'Adios America', will know that political platforms, integrity or experience become irrelevant when, year by year, the Democrats are importing block voters by the busload. For this election at least, the only thing that counts is stopping illegal immigration, deportation and returning the franchise to those who give more thought than simply self-interest.

Lots of people use the word conservative, but what does it really refer to?
To me this stark image sums up the toxic world-view that they promote, even claiming that "there is no other way"

Ann Coulter is not in any sense conservative - she is a raving-looney (psychotic) nut case. A typical example of the essentially psychotic nature of much/most/all of what is called "conservative" in the USA.

That having been said I quite like the analysis of the current USA political and cultural situation and how it came about given via the essay The End of Ordinary Politics on the Archdruid Report.
