By Max Atkinson, published 7/4/2016

The question underlying this anecdote, which links Donald Trump's success to Australian politics, is whether this institutional dishonesty is where the rot begins.

Oh, yes. Perfectly normal in Australia now - a lesbian supporting family values! 'Integrity' and 'principle' should never be mentioned in the same breath as 'politician'. Joe Bullock has realised that he cannot retain his inegrity and remain a politician, certainly not a Labor politician anyway.

As for conscience votes on a matter as outlandish and twisted as same-sex 'marriage' - no way. Bullock has decided that he cannot vote the way his amoral party wants him to, and he has done the right thing. But no politician or party has the right to impose their personal beliefs on voters. They should be doing what the majority of voters want. Of course, in a decent society, this disgusting business would never have arisen.

I believe there's a case for integrity in politics, and indeed in all your dealings with other folk!

Including parents with children they're responsible for. And a case as always, to say what you mean and mean what you say, as opposed to playing the devil's advocate and arguing for something you personally, just don't believe in, like say, equity and fairness.

And compounded by folk who say, do as I say, not as I do? Or the only rule you can't break, is the don't get caught rule.

No...your attempts to justify gay rights by linking them to descriptive Democracy, are confused!
What is appearing in the debate on same, is a conflict between spreadthink and groupthink.
If Democracy were to be appeased, the voter would be given the right to choose his representative. Under the system of false Democracy in Australia now, as pretty well always, the power of the democratic vote, is usurped by the power of the political party to manipulate Democracy, and tip its usefulness to the citizen, and skew its power towards vested interests.
True Democracy is dead in the water in Australia!
