This whole affiar is another stain on the reputation of Malaysia.
A reputation already tarnished by initially clueless Malaysian handling of the MH370 disappeared airliner affair. Najib Razak already has well established corruption credentials. Reported Reuters in 2012: "Malaysia's government will address allegations on Tuesday over its purchase of two French submarines, responding to a scandal that threatens to tarnish Prime Minister Najib Razak ahead of elections he is expected to call later this year. Defence Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is due to speak in parliament on allegations that Malaysian navy documents were sold to French shipbuilding giant DCNS to help its bid for the 1 billion euro ($1.25 billion) contract it won in 2002. Najib, defence minister at the time, has for years denied allegations of wrongdoing in the purchase of the Scorpene-class submarines. There has been no evidence linking him directly to corruption in the deal and his supporters say the political opposition is behind efforts to revive the issue just ahead of the election." http://www.reuters.com/article/us-malaysia-submarines-idUSBRE85P08N20120626 Onya Najib. If Malaysia did away with anti-Chinese and anti-Indian apartheid Malaysia might allow Chinese Malaysians and Indian Malaysian to improve the honesty and efficiency of the Government. Still there is a belated crackdown on Malaysian sourced ISIS volunteers. However if this admin runs true to form, that can be almost anyone? Political opponents even? Who would have thought?
Malaysia needs to remind itself how and why it was a backwoods basket case economy mired in endemic generational poverty, and how it got from there to the hugely successful economy it is today, with KL a thriving modern metropolis.
Certainly not at the hand or discretion of patently corrupt dictators, but by the implementation of democracy and the unfettered rule of law.
Both of which seem at risk at the hand of a patently corrupt few and the current gerrymander?
