By Sarah Russell, published 7/12/2015

Simply bringing females into the surgical boys club will not change this culture. Changing the toxic culture among surgeons requires structural change.

well the feminisation of the education system has worked a treat. Many boys are left without role models at home and school. No wonder we have such confusion. I would imagine the entrenched sexism in the education system is far worse than surgery. The problem is that it is the male who is discriminated against hence receiving next to no media attentionn.

Women capable of surgery are already surgeons. Just like any branch of human endeavour, capable women are doing exactly the same things as men. The rest are just not up to it.

...In the make believe world, all is tolerated, while complaining is forbidden.
In the real world, nothing is tolerated without complaint!

...This is the reason, complaining is pointless!

PS:

Diving was beautiful today....no complaints there!
And I have a simple question; how can I get a kitchen aid coffee machine free, without purchasing one?
That's a question, not a complaint!

Q, has anybody read the fairy tale about "the girl who cried rape"? A, why would i believe anything a feminazi EVER says?

I too hope that the culture of bullying, sexism and misogyny, that I have personally witnessed amongst male surgeons for all of my working life, can be at least lessened before I retire.

I have stood quietly by as Big Man Surgeons tore strips off
female medical students for pathetic reasons that they wouldn't dare say to the male students. I have seen them touching these women inappropriately, in front of patients and male students, reducing them to tears.

I now feel very sad that I wasn't strong enough to stand up and speak out against their disgusting behavior at the time. Later, when I became a midwife, a large group of midwives and female medical students complained about a surgeon and the rough way he dealt with the female staff and patients. I am pleased to say he did eventually lose his license. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Judging from the ignorant comments of obviously likeminded males from this forum, I won't be holding my breath that many bad male surgeons will go the same way....

I've worked in the health setting for more years than I care to remember. It has been my experience that surgeons both male and female consider themselves as Gods and treat everybody the same. Deplorably.
