Germaine Greer shows us the tyranny of trans-mania : Comments

By John Slater, published 2/11/2015

Caitlyn Jenner's apotheosis from suffering patriarch of the Kardashian clan to the newly inaugurated Queen of the trans movement marks a new high water mark for trans-mania.

Definition of Transgenderism

Transgenderism is where people experience a mismatch between their gender identity or gender expression and their assigned sex.

Assigned sex is just a trivial piece of wiggly-bit or hole Fascism imposed on people sexo-Nazis.

The McHugh data has been debunked. He used sloppy methodology to support his pre-determined conclusion.

Suicide rates for post-op transsexual people are in fact much lower than for pre-op. The study you quoted, which has been debunked, again suffers from poor methodology and sample selection.

All of which is beside the point. As a Liberal, one would have though that you support the right of people to make decisions concerning themselves, but here you are making noises in support of those who would deny that freedom to others. No one is planning on forcing you to undergo hormone therapy and surgery.

The only thing Germaine Greer shows us is the tyranny of radical feminism.

She was protecting the Patriarchy paradigm, feminist turf and eternal victimhood and entitlement for educated middle class white women, and getting back into the limelight. The last mentioned is granted where the human headline is concerned.

Q, is transmania mental illness & personal suffering porn?

Q, should a severely mentally ill child be left alone or turned into a reality TV star for the amusement of plebs?

Q, is a severely mentally ill person regardless of whether they are above or under 18 capable of consenting to body mutilation surgery?

Q, isn't it normal for any boy growing up during the last few decades of constant misandry to think there is something wrong with being male? or a straight male?

Mayan, how many left wing social science surveys have been debunked?

onthebeach, too true, but for once she is right, transmania is hardly healthy.

" but for once she is right"

Heh,heh, but not because the spiteful old thing set out to do right. It was quite the reverse.

Hugely funny too that here she is being attacked by feminists who would deny her freedom of speech.

Their own PC biting Germs and feminists on their ample rear ends.

The story has more twists than a pallet of Prezels. Hugely entertaining.

As a proud feminist I think this is a well written and well timed article - especially the point: "when there are conflicting views on a difficult subject, offense and confected outrage are without doubt the worst reasons to silence those who challenge the status quo."

Without doubt, modern society has become overly censorious; freedom of speech includes freedom to question the PC version - even freedom to infuriate (including me or you)

This has now been added to the growing list of taboo subjects to deny the right of free speech. Emeritus Professor Germaine Greer was to deliver this year’s Hadyn Ellis Distinguished Lecture -the eighth in the series hosted by Cardiff University. The lecture was titled “Women & Power: The Lessons of the 20th Century”.
A petition called on the University to ban the lecture, alleging that Greer has “demonstrated misogynistic views towards trans women, including continually misgendering trans women and denying the existence of transphobia altogether”. Asked about the petition, Greer told the Guardian: “ It strikes me as a bit of a put-up job really because I am not even going to talk about the issue that they are on about…“What they are saying is that because I don’t think surgery will turn a man into a woman I should not be allowed to speak anywhere.”… “I do not know why universities cannot hear unpopular views and think about what they mean.”

The author seems to be confused, are you a liberal or a conservative?
As another poster has said why would a liberal be against someone making a personnel choice.

The reality is what makes us think we are a man or a women is not fully understood. Sexual assignment generally happens in fetuses but with all development it can come up with a range of outcomes. Scientist do know that it is not just about our physical appearance. Even that however can be complicated, people are born with one or the other sex organs,or both or even none.

As for citing Ms Greer as an informed opinion, you really are clutching a straws

Cobber the hound,

I take it liberals don't mind pseudo-women/female mimics with mental issues using women's rest rooms.

The reality is that I know what makes me think i'm a man. I'm a father of more than one child. I'm sure the majority of women in the world including Greer knows what makes them think they are women.

One thing is for sure and that is you can't know that you are woman if you haven't lived the experiences of a woman with a "natural" female body.

As per usual the feminists are manufacturing a narrative to spin Greer's motivation as positive and wholesome for society. However, the feminists deliberately omit some salient points.

First and foremost, Feminists sure hate transgenderism. They always have seen them, at least the male to female ones as competing for cachet (as a 'wonderful womyn').

It is feminists NOT the public (nor the despised men they scold, belittle and hiss at), who protested against Greer and it is feminists who sought to ban her from speaking at the university. It is a fight among feminists, the aged dinos from the previous Millenium such as Greer, versus younger feminists, tooth and claw and the mysogyny slur among other favourites is being used freely, again as per usual.

The tediously boring, reactionary, human headline Greer is representative of the self-obsessed, entitled, educated white middle class feminist dinosaurs who are protecting their entitlement. Some still ride the gravy train courtesy of the tight 'networking', cronyism and favouritism, of leftist crews like Emily's List.

As I posted in another thread on the same subject, the international company I once worked for had some contracts with government. It was noticeable that it was only in the government bureaucracies that transgenders became 'issues'. The feminist controlled unions were absolute mongrels in their treatment of the men to women transgenders and so much so that it was pitiful to witness. Still, it delivered more disabled toilets. The implied categorisation of the affected transgenders as 'disabled' was not lost on the feminists' victims.

However women to male (add the many lesbians dressed and acted male in the bureaucracy anyhow) was quite alright. The feminists could frame a narrative around that, apparently.

It is all about defending that B.S. feminist 'Patriarchy' paradigm. -Always with that overarching goal of protecting the entitlements and 'positive' discrimination enjoyed and being increased by the educated middle class white women who are feminism.

So yes, while we might defend Greer's right to free speech and criticism of the 'gushing' PC in the media, at the same time we should not to lose sight of the fact that it was Greer, other feminists and 'leftist 'Progressives' like her (she says she is an anarchist from the 'Sydney Push' though), who are responsible for the political correctness that resulted in the events she now complains about.

Nothing has changed. Here is Greer and other cultural warriors on theme and outnumbering Hitchens, courtesy of the taxpayer-funded ABC,

The lack of rational debate must be a disappointment for the editor of OLO. Though mangled, the message of my posting was unmistakable. I made no reference to the validity of Professor Germaine Greer’s opinions. I was simply arguing for free speech as basic to democracy. Just as free speech gives the right to attack her arguments it guarantees her right to express them.

onthebeach, too right mate,

SHORT&SHARP, an honest feminist? darling i hear where you are coming from but there is an oxymoron if ever i heard one.

Leslie, leftists love free speech for them & hate it for any one who does not agree with them.

Cobber the hound, sorry but you are wrong, medical science discovered the causes of gender confusion decades ago. 1, birth defects, 2, child abuse, 3, choice, often influenced by peer pressure. grow up & get over yourself.

Roscop, too true, but don't expect an antisocialist to agree with facts.

onthebeach & Leslie, well said again guys but the antisocialists will never admit to committing social, economic & cultural treason, sedition, sabotage or engage in a rational debate about anything. it is high time the OLO editorial staff & all moderate conservatives stopped expecting the criminally insane to be reasonable about anything & move on.

Ban every one from the left & have a reasonable discussion with conservatives, moderates, libertarians, centrists & swinging voters. then we will be able to repair left wing damage, repay left wing debt.

I know its extremely unlikely to happen on OLO but I'd strongly oppose attempts to silence the voices of the Left by editorial policy. I like the way parts of the argument is Putin this OLO article http://www.onlineopinion.com.au/view.asp?article=17791&page=3

I also tend to think that views don't go away by being silenced, that it's better to have them expressed in a space where they can be challenged and rebutted than pushed underground. That is a different thing than handing a podium or pulpit to be used for unchallenged promotion of a viewpoint.

I also tend to the view that OLO is much more interesting and covers a wider range of aspects of an issue within a thread when there are competing viewpoint ts than when there is broad agreement.

Hi R0bert

I agree with you and the author, it’s important to be able to discuss these issues honestly and vigorously. And I also like OLO’s robust debate.

The Greer-NUS case is interesting because it is one strand of the left trying to silence another. Usually when people advocate restrictions on free speech they are trying to silence ideas from the opposite side of the political spectrum – left censoring right, and vice versa.

This New Statesman article gives an interesting leftish perspective on the issue

RObert & Rhian, i have never once seen a leftist ever admit they were wrong, about any thing, ever, despite being proven wrong by the settled science. Their antisocial, anticommunity, power from the people policies have been creating poverty ever since 1972.

They are like islam, beyond hope for reform, must be jailed for treason or deported to a leftist nation where they can be happy.

if they don't love a christian nation they can leave.

Oh this is great stuff, Iamacentristmoderate. Great stuff!

I’d love to see what your character would consider a right-winger to be if he thinks he’s a centrist.

There are moments where I feel sorry for OLO’s conservatives, having a character like yours on the same side of the political divide as them, but many of them seem to be quite happy to accept him with open arms. He even got a “mate” the other day.

I sometimes wonder if runner is just some Leftie too. A really intelligent Leftie who never tires of trolling the place.

//ALL socialism is authoritarian//

And authoritarianism is bad, right?

//Ban every one from the left//

I guess not. Glad we got that one cleared up. Thanks, Iamperformingmarvellousparody.
