The Muslims are a religious minority and there are also separatist tensions that have gone on for many years. Radicalisation via some Muslim schools and the Internet persuasion by Islamic State also happens.

The muslims of the deep south have been there for 100 years. Three provinces against the Thai Malaysia border.
Malaysia does not want anything to do with them. One mob is claiming a separatist state.
The Thai army will sort them out. They love a bit of sport.
There has been fighting going on down there for years.
