We should not feel "uncomfortable" about any link with animals because there isn't one worth considering, and most people wouldn't give any thought to a link anyway. Some people, sometimes, act like animals; most of us do not.

The existence of this "mind" as distinct from the brain, is merely a hypotheses, even more so the claim that if such a thing exists then it is unique to humans, to all humans and to no animals.

What distinguishes between us and animals is that unlike ourselves, animals are physical objects - but so also are humans (other than this unproven hypothetical "mind"). Naturally humans and animals are not the same, but even the difference between a human and a chair is relatively tiny in comparison.
